Marshmallows

"I love you" Phil had whispered gently as he grasped Dan's hand in his.

Phil's 'I love you' was a delicate, pure white snowflake, gliding gracefully on harsh winter winds like a paper aeroplane.

He had been by Dan's side for a month, informing him in his usual bubbly, perky tone about how his day had been, and about how he believed that Dan could wake up, so come on! He had squeezed his hand lovingly and encouraged him to awaken. Phil had ached to hold him in his arms and never let him go and tell him that everything was going to be okay now because he was here. He had gently brushed Dan's chocolate brown waves aside if they ever went in his pretty dimpled face, and he had wished to kiss him on the lips because they just looked so irresistible and he couldn't stop staring at them.

The onyx-haired boy leaned forward, slowly, carefully, delicately, and placed his perfect pink lips on Dan's cheek. His cheek was soft and sweet like a warm, adorable, dimpled little marshmallow. Marshmallows reminded him of happiness and innocence and sweetness and the childish excitement that you feel when you've finally received your Christmas gifts after weeks of impatient anticipation.

As Phil had moved back away, towards the stiff plastic chair beside the bed that become his five-hours-a-day resting spot, a beautifully scarred arm had reached out sleepily and caught his wrist. The transfixing chestnut eyes of Dan Howell had flickered open gradually and dilated instantly at the sight that they beheld.

"Dan! I'm so glad you're okay Dan!" Phil had exclaimed ecstatically, flinging his long arms around the dimpled boy and pulling him jovially into a long, warm hug. They had both stared in to eachother's eyes for a while; a comfortable silence had fallen upon them. Dan's gaze had been of innocent confusion, merged with mild surprise, but was still overflowing with love and happiness. Phil's gaze had been of euphoria, ecstatic excitement, and even more love.

"Uhh...um...hi, Phil." Dan stuttered back in a daze, his cheeks suddenly catching alight like a burning building.

"Dan..." the ocean eyed Phil had blushed back in response, completely lost for words.

They were still gazing in to eachother's eyes, full to the brim with lust and adorabley innocent joy.

"Wanna go home?" Dan had asked chirpily, before his joyful facial expression plunged in to a regretful, melancholy one. "Oh yeah..."

"Let's go home" Phil had smiled radiantly, taking Dan's soft hand in his and tugging him out of his lumpy, uncomfortable hospital bed gently.

The two checked Dan out of the hospital together, and Phil said a grateful goodbye to Cindy, whose eyes kept flickering between the two as she gave them a suggestive smirk. Phil was sad to say goodbye to her, because she had been the one who made him realize his feelings for Dan. Nevertheless, after four excruciating and impatient hours of extensive paperwork and forms, he was able to leave the hospital.

On the extensive journey home, by one lengthy London Underground stop and two crowded bus stops, the lion-loving boy had told Dan everything, excluding the parts about falling in love with him.
He had intended to keep his love a well-hidden secret until he was completely sure that he was ready to tell him.
