Amortentia

Y/n's POV

Today was a special day in Potions class. You know why? Because we were learning about Amortentia, the most powerful love potion in the world. While it would have been fun to brew it, Snape didn't want there to be any shenanigans, so instead we would just be studying it. As we were doing our assignment, Snape was walking around with a tiny vial of the love potion and having each student take a whiff. I was seated next to Draco, who I had befriended in first year. The two of us had been sorted into Slytherin together, and since we had practically every class together, we became friends.

"L/n, Malfoy, your turn," Snape announced and uncapped the vial. "What do you guys smell?" I leaned in closer to the potion and inhaled a large amount, but for some reason, I couldn't smell anything distinctive. In fact, all I could smell was Draco's cologne.

"Draco, could you back up for a moment?" I request. "All I'm smelling is your cologne."

"I'm not wearing any cologne," Draco told me.

"Well, yeah, you are, because I can smell it right now," I declare. "And you put on way too much, might I add."

"You're delusional, Y/n. I just told you I didn't put on any cologne this morning," Draco spoke.

"All right, Mr. Malfoy, why don't you have a go," Snape suggested. Draco inhaled some of the fumes coming off the Amortentia, but then he frowned and turned to me.

"Y/n, your perfume is a little strong today," Draco informed me.

"A little strong? I only sprayed my wrists, and that was this morning. It's almost the end of the day. There's no way the smell is that strong," I put forth.

"How are you gonna nag me about my cologne, which I didn't put on today, by the way, but won't listen when I'm telling you about your perfume?" Draco asked.

"You two, just finish the assignment," Snape instructed. "No more bickering."

"Great," I breathe out as Snape walked away. "Now we might get a bad grade, all thanks to you."

Draco scoffed. "Thanks to me? I think you mean thanks to you."

"All right, class is dismissed. The assignment you've been working on will be due at the start of class tomorrow," Snape revealed.

I sighed and hopped off my seat. "Well, I'm gonna go finish the assignment. Alone. See you later, Draco."

I grabbed all of my stuff, and without even sparing Draco another glance, I exited the classroom. Instead of going to the Great Hall for dinner, I headed straight for the Slytherin Common Room, which was only a short walk away from Snape's classroom. Inside, I dropped my bag down at one of the tables, pulled my assignment out from it, and got to work. For some reason though, I couldn't seem to concentrate. All I could think about was what happened today during Potions. There's no way Draco could have smelled my perfume that much. Just as I finished up the last part of the assignment, Blaise entered the common room and made his way over to me.

"Hey," Blaise greeted. "I noticed you weren't at dinner today."

"Yeah, well, I wanted to finish up my potions assignment. Alone," I state.

"Oh. Okay. Well, I brought you a plate from the great hall," Blaise disclosed and set a plate of food down in front of me.

"Blaise, you are the best. Thank you!" I chirp and kiss his cheek before digging into my food. "God, this is amazing."

"I figured if you didn't eat with the rest of us, you'd be sneaking off to the kitchens later," Blaise assumed. "And I don't want you to get in trouble again."

"It is greatly appreciated," I admit.

"So, what happened between you and Draco today?" Blaise quizzed. "He was pretty quiet during dinner."

"Potions class happened," I respond. "We were supposed to be smelling the Amortentia Snape had brewed as apart of our grade, but I couldn't smell a thing all because of Draco's cologne."

Blaise frowned. "Y/n, Draco didn't put on any cologne today."

"Ugh," I groan. "Not you too. Look, that's what I smelled, okay? And it was more powerful than usual."

"Well what did he smell?" Blaise questioned.

"My perfume," I reply. "But I hardly put any on today. And even though I did, the scent would have worn off hours ago. I can't even smell it on myself, so I don't know how Draco did."

"Um, Y/n? I think I know what's going on," Blaise said.

"Please, share," I beg and stick another forkful of food into my mouth.

"As you know, Amortentia smells differently to each person according to what attracts them. If you smelled Draco's cologne and he smelled your perfume..." Blaise trailed off.

"Bloody hell!" I curse. "You're saying Draco likes me?"

"Yeah. Isn't that a good thing though? You've had a crush on him since third year," Blaise pointed out.

"I know, but I've always been scared to tell him how I feel because I didn't want to ruin our friendship. Now to find out that he likes me....I don't know what to do," I confess.

"Go find him and tell him that you like him," Blaise proposed. "If he likes you too, you have nothing to worry about. Pansy and I also have a bet about who would make the first move, and I bet on you, so I kind of need you to do this."

"Oh yeah? How much is the bet?" I implore.

"3 galleons," Blaise answered.

"Then I can't have you lose, now can I? Do you know where I can find Draco?" I ask.

"He's in the library finishing his potions assignment. Now hurry. Go," Blaise urged and dragged me to the door. I found Draco just where Blaise said he'd be. He was in the corner of the library, working hastily on the paper in front of him. He was so engrossed in the assignment that he didn't notice I was standing in front of him until I coughed softly.

"Y/n, hey. Just the person I wanted to see. I wanted to tell you how sorry I am for earlier," Draco apologized as I took the seat next to him.

"What? Draco, don't apologize. It was as much my fault as it was yours," I claim. "And uh, I have something to tell you. After everything that happened in Potions today, plus talking with Blaise, I realized....I've figured out that we....ugh. I'm just gonna do it."

With that, I leaned over and pressed my lips to Draco's. For a moment, I felt Draco freeze, but within a second, he was kissing me back. I had dreamed of this moment since my third year here. And for it to finally be happening....I just couldn't believe it. The next few seconds were pure bliss, but eventually, the two of us pulled apart.

"Wow. I um, I didn't see that coming," Draco confided. "But it was something I've been wanting to do for a while now."

"You and me both," I agree and glance over at his unfinished potions assignment. "If you want, you can come get some of the answers off my paper. I finished already."

"Won't Snape think we cheated then?" Draco posed.

I waved him off. "I don't think so. I mean, we do sit next to each other in Potions, so he'll probably think we did most of it in class together. And once you finish this assignment, we can talk about us and how we'd like to move forward with things."

Draco smiled. "Okay. That sounds like a plan. But first, can we sneak off to the kitchen to grab some dessert?"

"You read my mind. I would love nothing more. Come on," I say and tug him out of his seat. "Lets go."
