dan
i just bought a dog.
i don't know why i did, or even really how. i just went to the pet shop thing and said i wanted a dog. they showed me all the dogs they had and i fell in love with one. she's a baby pug with the widest but prettiest eyes ever. her original named was stella but i renamed her lily.
so now i'm sitting in my car with lily sitting in my passenger seat, looking out the window curiously. i don't even live on my own! my parents are tense enough as is, the most definitely won't agree with me bringing a dog home.
i dial the only person who can talk me down.
"hey dan!" phil's enthusiastic voices answers on the third ring.
"i bought a dog." i blurt out.
silence. and then laughter. phil's actually laughing at me right now. this is blasphemy.
"ahem.." i cough impatiently.
"sorry, sorry. are you actually being serious right now?"
"yes, i am. her name is lily." i wait for him to reply.
"but.. isn't that a flower?"
"yeah, and?" i glance over at lily, who's now curled up asleep.
"nothing, sorry. do you want to come over and figure this out?" he asks.
i agree to us coming over for a few minutes to go over what i should do with lily.
i type in his new address. a few days ago, the day after we met for coffee, he moved out of pj's and into his own one bedroom apartment. i helped him move his stuff in, and i think it's coming along nicely.
as i'm pulling into the apartment parking lot, i wonder what to do to get lily inside. she isn't very heavy, so i could try carrying her. but i don't know if that'll work. she looks suspicious as i go to pick her up. she lets me pick her up, and i walk towards the door. this isn't going very well.
"phil? can you come let me in?" i set lily down for a moment to let her pee in a bush and took the moment to call phil.
lily trots back over to me and sits at my feet.
phil leads us up to his apartment, where 'finding dory' is playing on his tv
on the floor. lily walks in ahead of us, sniffing out her surroundings."phil, my parents aren't going to let me keep her! what am i going to do?" i dramatically sit in a chair. phil takes the one next to me and stares at lily as she sniffs his feet.
"i mean.. they can't really do anything. you bought her, so she's yours." he picks her up and sets her on his lap.
"it's their house. their rules, so they say. they'll probably kick us out and i won't have anywhere to go with my poor puppy."
phil tilts his head to the side, petting lily quietly. we're silent for a few moments, the only sound is the fish on the screen.
"you could always come to live with me." he blurts.
i stare at him incredulously. live with him? i mean.. that doesn't sound too bad but we just resolved issues that revolved around trust and stableness. i don't know if living with phil would make things better or worse.
"that wouldn't be the end of the world. but only if worse comes to worse." i tease. he nods and we start watching the movie, content.
