Chapter 21: Mate

Jamie's POV

I woke up in the morning in a very soft bed. I looked around the room and Xavier was sitting in a chair by my bedside. I made a whimpering noise as I jostled my head, which made me feel very dizzy.

"Hey, Jamie. How do you feel?" Xavier asked.

"Like my head could explode any minute."

"That's to be expected. Do you remember what happened?"

"Not exactly." I whispered.

"Well, I had an elder come and he helped me break the bond between you and Alex. I know.. I know you're going to be mad, but-"

"Wait, wait, I'm confused." I whispered.

He gave me a weird look. "About what?"

"Who's Alex?"

His eyes widened and he stood up. "Jamie, you don't know who Alex is?"

"Should I?"

His eyes widened even more and he turned around so he wasn't facing me. I could tell that something was wrong and I just wanted to help Xavier feel better.

"Xavier, what's wrong?"

"You should remember. When you find out what happened, you're going to kill me." He whispered.

I gasped. "No, I will not! I love you, Xavier. You're my mate. Why the hell would I ever want to harm you?"

He tensed up as my words started to process in his head. He turned towards me and I could see tears in his eyes. I motioned for him to come to me and he did. He sat on the edge of the bed and I took his hand in mine.

"I would never hurt you, Xavier." I whispered, reaching up to run my hand through his hair.

"Jamie, you don't remember Alex? You don't remember living at camp and meeting him?" He asked.

"When I lived at camp, you moved back and we felt the mating bond. Xavier, what the hell is going on with you?"

He looked super overwhelmed and I felt a throbbing in my head. I winced, closing my eyes. My hand automatically went up to my forehead. Xavier reached out and placed his hand on my chest.

"Are you okay?" He whispered.

"Xavier, it hurts." I told him, looking up at him with pleading eyes.

"Your head hurts?"

"Yes, make it stop. Please, make it stop." I whispered, turning over onto my stomach to dig my head into the pillow. I felt him moving on the bed and his hands started to rub my back.

I sighed into the pillow as his hands caressed my body. I started to feel extremely tired, so I let my eyes close and drifted asleep.

Xavier's POV

I ran down the stairs and into my office where I knew that damn elder would be. He looked up when I slammed the door opened and he smirked when he saw it was me.

"What the hell did you do?" I screamed at him.

"I gave you what you wanted. You know that he wouldn't have been happy with you if he knew what you had done to his bond with his mate." The elder said.

"If he finds out what I did, he will kill me!"

"The only way he can find out that you aren't his true mate is if he sees Alex again."

"Do you not remember our whole fucking plan? We were going to force Jamie to come with us and make him rule by our side, so Alex will see his mate not with him. He would get weaker and weaker as time went on until he eventually is no longer able to cope with the loss of his mate! Now, we can't do that because if Jamie sees him, then everything will be done!"
