Still December 24, 1939

"I am here on behalf of the Chief of British Military to tell you that you have been recruited to be in the Royal Norfolk Regiment for the United Kingdom's Army to serve with the Allied Powers in the battle against Germany."

"O-oh my-"

"Yes I know it seems like a lot to take in, but you're needed immediately on the field soldier. I understand that it is the Christmas season, but we need you now?"

"Right now?" I asked.

"No in four years. Of course now!" He laughed.

"How come I didn't get a letter?"

"You did," He replied. "Multiple actually. That's the reason why I'm here."

"What?" I was confused and I heard the sound of creaky steps. I turned around and looked up at my mum.

"I understand that you enlisted?" He asked.

"I-I did, but I didn't get any letters. Mum, did you know about this?"

"I-uh. Yes...." Said and broke down crying.

The man look at my mom with pity and then turned to me.

"I'll give you three hours,"the train station is not more than ten minutes from here, so you best not be late. You are to bring sufficient clothing for the next three days and this letter and uniform," he handed me the paper that I had always longed for and the uniform that I yearned to wear, "I honestly wished that I could give you more time," he whispered. "Well then, see you soon soldier," and  he saluted me.

I shut my door and turned back at my mum.

"Why?" I asked. "Why would you do this to me?"

"B-because y-your my b-baby boy Harold. This isn't r-right. Y-you're to young and this is t-to dangerous-s." He voice shook.

"This has been my dream! I've talked to you about this multiple times before, why can't you get that through your head?" I snapped.

"Harry! That's no way to speak to your mother!" My dad snapped.

"I'm.Doing.This." I spoke harshly and ran past my mum, up the stairs, and into my room to pack.

I didn't know what he meant by a sufficient amount, so I just threw clothes in my suitcase and shut it. I changed into the uniform that the man had given me and I ran back down the stairs.
