Pas De Nom
{French translation; 'Not Of Name' or 'No Name'}
"And now ladies and gentlemen..." Ringmaster. began. I strutted out from the shadows. I guess you can say...ironic...I have a cat walk.
"Cat," he said. I meowed and the crowd swooned at me. I did a little dance that resembled ballet as my hoops lowered. The hoops were simple and made of metal, four feet apart. They were a few inches thick.
I sighed lowly when they reached their stop, six feet off of the ground. I crouched as a cat would do and locked my eyes with my target. I jumped and just barley hooked my hands with the hoop.
I swung forward, gaining momentum as the hoop raised. I swung backward then forward once more before flipping over and sitting on the hoop.
I twirled and did tricks on the hoop. Then they started swaying sideways. I stood up and balanced myself, which was hard because of the swaying. I growled under my breath before I jumped, missing the hoop by an centimeter and caught myself with my tail.
I would get beaten for that later.
I reached up and grabbed the hoop with my hands and easily swung myself up with the help of my tail.
I stood and took a deep breath while spreading out my hands. It didn't take much courage to jump off of the hoop. I did many twists in the air before landing on my feet. The crowd burst into cheers.
I never look up at the crowd, afraid they will see my bloodshot eyes.
"That was Cat. She will be with the other...talents at the end of the show," he spoke. I waved my hand and tail at them and walked off. I felt eyes burning into my back, but I dare not look.
A hand harshly grabbed my arm and threw me into a cage named 'Cat'. I suppose that is my show name. I was never given a name, but I call myself Pas de Nom. You could probably guess that I came from France, but I was orphaned for my looks. Then Ringmaster found me and promised me a good life. I have been here all my life, and it was not once fulfilled.
I sat in the corner closed my eyes until Ringmaster would come beat me. That was sooner than I thought because soon he barged in a messily unlocked my cage. I stood before him, awaiting my beating.
He brought his hand up and it fell hard upon my face. I didn't do anything, I just whimpered.
"Next time," He landed a punch to my nose, knocking me onto the ground.
"Don't miss," He kicked me in the stomach.
"Because," He kicked me again.
"It'll be much worse," he then stomped on my face and left. I just curled up and whimpered to myself, but I didn't cry.
"Are you okay?" I heard a familiar voice ask. I smiled inwardly, but didn't respond
"You can cry, itsssss ok, Nom," he hissed. It was snake.
"Yeah, Nom," I heard Mouse's small voice say. We were a weird bunch. A cat, mouse, and snake.
I still didn't respond, so they stopped talking.
I felt a little bad, but I haven't talked since I was happy, and I will not talk until I'm happy again.
I heard laughter and footsteps coming and sighed inwardly.
"Welcome," Ringmaster's voice boomed.
There were gasps and laughter all around. Some people walked up to my cage. I struggled to get up and plaster a fake smile on my face, but my feet felt like jelly and my face stayed in a forever frown.
"What's wrong with this one?" A little girl asks. Nevertheless, I made it to my feet. I wavered a little, but stood straighter, my head still down. Keeping my hand planted firmly on my stomach, I walked up to the caged.
"Hello," the little girl chirped. I simply nodded, but a few drops of blood fell onto the floor. I cautiously wiped my broken nose.
"Are you okay?" The girl gasped. I nodded.
"May I pet you?" She asked, oblivious to the fact that I'm hurt, bruised, and I've been beaten. I scooted closer and stuck my tail through the bars.
"It's so pretty," She stroked it with care, not like most kids. I nodded and brought it up to tickle her. She giggled and a smile fell onto my face, but she couldn't see.
"May I pet it?" Asked a deep, husky voice. It must be her dad. I nodded and gently wiped my nose again. His hand stroked my tail and it erupted with sparks. It shot back. Oops. "Sorry," he mumbled.
I nodded and mindlessly brushed my unkept black hair back with my tail.
"How old are you?" The girl asked. I just shrugged.
"How long have you been here?" The man asked. I hesitated for a while and shrugged. I went to wipe my nose, but my sleeve tickled my nose. And I made a big mistake.
I sneezed.
