Baku was downright confused. What made Zanya so comfortable in his presence? It took them so long to earn his trust even with the optimistic Gao and energetic Tetsuya. Heck, he never even really seemed to like their company. So what what made him trust this shady dark loner with a name as dark as him? No matter how Baku thought about it, he still couldn't wrap his head around it.
"Baku, stop being so rude." Zanya chided him. "What do you mean by that?" Baku asked, mystified. "You were speaking your thoughts out loud." 'Kurai' said, monotonous. Baku immediately apologised. "I'm sorry!"
"What are you apologising for? You were only telling what you thought of me." Huh? Usually, anybody would be insulted from such words while he remained unruffled. Maybe he's just insecure, but what am I supposed to say now??
Zanya gave him the stink eye which prompted him to apologise once again and run for his life.
"Kurai, can I talk to you for a while? Alone? " Airi asked quietly. She nodded and pulled her to a deserted corner.
Airi took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself. "Don't you think you are getting too..."She cleared her throat "...close to the target?"
Airi was then rewarded with a confused stare. Not really the flustered reaction she wanted but better than the last time she asked that question. The assassin had dropped the grenade he was holding and the pin fell out. For the rest... I think you'll know what happened.
Airi tried to put it in words that she would understand. "Well, you see. He is going to die after all,you might become emotionally... attached to him." the other simply stared at her as if she told her that she needed her to eat a large boot.
"I,of course know this, but I wouldn't." She simply stated. Airi sighed, look who finally decided to talk, I was beginning to feel weirded out. "Anyway, about our assignments..."
Airi flinched, her rival was still unaware of the request one of their old clients made. Because of how important he was, they were unable to turn it down.
While both organisations were rivals, both of them had worked together countless of times for their missions. She enjoyed competing against her rival and soon regarded her as an older sister.
"We can still work together, you know." Airi was immediately brought back to the present. "How?!" Was the first dumb question to tumble out.
"If we kill them at the same time, Kyoya would be forced to choose one but if he chooses one, he will incur the others wrath so he will have no choice but to..." "Pay both of us!" Airi excitedly finished for her.
At least they could work together for one more time before she had to kill her. She was looking forward to working with her again.
"Want to start now?" her rival smirked. She turned back to the group by the seats. It was the perfect angle for a gun to shoot. She nodded happily and took out a pistol hidden in her pockets.
And how the hell did she managed to hide a sniper rifle?!
Airi stared incredulously at her pistol, then back to the rifle. Her rival didn't share her surprise and quickly mapped out a plan. Airi would be hiding by the wall and would shoot the targets chest while at the same time, her rival would be on a higher ground, shooting through his head.
Airi aimed at the boy, her specialty was with ammo and she rarely missed her target. She gave the signal to get ready, she aimed her pistol, he was blissfully unaware of the impending doom.
And she shot.
Zanya was waiting for Kurai to come back, he was already missing the company of the boy. He sighed in annoyance, Aika was really annoying. She had begin to babble about things that didn't matter, not that he was even listening to her.
He missed the silence between them, Aika was just too noisy for his tastes. Was it him or was she inching closer? Their legs accidentally touched and he immediately jolted back as if he had been struck by lightning.
Bang! Bang!
Was that gunshots?! He quickly looked around Aika didn't seemed to notice but he heard them loud and clear. He went to investigate but only found Kurai and Airi standing there innocently.
He retreated as to not interrupt their conversation. But he wasn't going to forget this, gunshots after an assassination attempt by a dagger? It couldn't be a coincidence but he was going to leave it alone for now.
Airi cursed under her breath, for the first time ever, she missed her target. Stupid Aika. That airhead, it was all because of her. She shoved her pistol into her pocket while the other scrambled down and hid the rifle behind a wall.
Zanya soon came down to investigate but he didn't see their weapons. Next time, she swore she wouldn't miss.
