They ran. Fast. The thing pursuing them, he could not see. All he knew that it was dangerous, and that he had to get away. They had to get away.
"Garroth, I'm not sure how much longer I can run with my leg like this!" Laurance shouted, a crimson stream running down his leg.
"Come on! Just a little longer Laurance!" Garroth shouted back. They'd get back to Phoenix Drop. Together. Suddenly, he heard Laurance gasp in pain. Garroth turned around. Horror filled his eyes, as he saw the creature, it's spiked tail plunged through Laurance's chest.
"Run." Laurance coughed up blood, it streamed down his chest. His eyes glazed over, and Garroth knew. He didn't want to believe, but he knew. He just lost his best friend, comrade. Maybe something more... He couldn't tell... And now he never would.

He shot up, breathing heavily. Tears streamed down his face.
"Ugh, just another nightmare..." Garroth groaned. He'd been having nightmares like this one for a while. It was really starting to affect him. He walked outside, to see that is was still dark. He could see Laurance sitting on a log, in front of what remained of the fire.
"Hey, what're you doing up?" Garroth asked, wiping his tears and trying to keep his voice steady.
"I had a nightmare. Judging by your tears, you did too..." Laurance responded, turning his head to look at Garroth. Garroth sat down next to him, staring into the dying flames. "How bad was it?"
"... I watched you die." Garroth replied. "How bad was yours?"
"... I killed you." Laurance's voice lost its normal cheery tone, and he stared blankly at the dying coals.

After sitting there for a while, Garroth realised Laurance was resting his head on Garroth's shoulder. Laurance was asleep. Garroth smiled to himself. And eventually fell asleep as well.
