I slammed down my alarm and turned around, 7:30 glowed in red letters, telling me to get up. I groaned and got up, yawnning and stretching. I opened the door and stepped out not knowing my dad was walking ahead and our paths were about to intersect.
"S*** Summer, watch it. I almost dropped my coffee on myself. Godammmit," he looked at me, his gray eyes showing anger. He shook his head and walked away;
"Good for nothing," I heard him say.
I was totally awake by then and my sight was slightly blurry. I tried to make it to the washroom before the tears started pouring but didn't. I hated my dad, he never liked me. I think it was only because he wanted a boy so he could inherit the family buisness. But too bad, and mom. She was always scared of dad and she, well she past away awhile ago. I hated her for dying so actually, i hated both of them.
I took a deep breath and thought, great. That just made my day.
I took a shower, letting the steady stream wash away my tears. I put on my PJ's once again, and making sure the coast was clear walked to my room. I locked the door behind me and opened the doors to the closet. Picking out a dress with tights I slipped it on and walked to my desk. I checked my cell and noticed a new text from Kate,
"Get up u sleepyhead! meet me at my house at 8:15. do NOT wanna Be l8 4 the trip 2day. hurry!"
Shoot, i realized today was the 30th, the day of our class trip. I looked down at my outfit and swore. I rushed to my closet once again and grabbed a hoodie and capris instead. I quickly changed and looked at the time. 8:00. I sighed, plenty of time.
I went downstairs carefully and made a quick sandwich while trying to get down a bowl of cereal. Cleaning up my mess i rushed out and started to jog/walk towards Kate's house. Once i got there I saw her getting ou tof the house.
"Finally, you're early!"
"Oh hey, i'm good," i grinned at her.
"Ugh you bum get in the car," she said trying not to grin but giving up in the end.
We got into her car. Her parents were a go-green kind of people so they got her a Toyota Echo, which supposedly ran on lower gas or soemthing like that.
" I'm so ecxited. Missing school to go hiking! And we're hiking buddies, way too cool. I was gonna wear this really cute top but then I backtracked and was like what if i get it dirty and hey look i'm wearing a blue sweater too!"
I looked over at Kate and noticed her blue sweater, a shade just a bit lighter than mine. I rolled my eyes at her.
"So what, i don't get a compliment?" she asked playfully.
"You look gow-gess dah-ling," i said sounding like the guidence counseler we had at school. Even if you were the ugliest person around she would say that and she said it in such a way, you would actually believe it. But it was no secret I lacked the charm.
"You're way too funny Summer," she said playfully slapping me on the arm.
We reached Del Hura high school and parked in the student lot. I got out struggling with my backpack and started waking towards the enterance, Kate siding with me. Daniel, our other friend broke off from his little group and joined us.
"Hey guys, you two ready for the trip?" he looked at both of us, walking ahead of us and then turning around to face us.
"Hmm, let me see Daniel," Kate said, " Do we look like we're going to a catwalk or hiking?"
He took in our outfits, "Oh right," he went back in position beside me and we made our way up the stairs with Kate jabbering away at the newest fashion in the magazine she was going through. After getting our things we walked to first period, eager to board the bus. I was put beside Daniel. Kate was behind us with some girl named Lauren.
Five minutes into the ride Daniel started talking,
"So, what's up?"
"Nothing much, same old." I replied bluntly. As much as Daniel was our friend, he just didn't figure it out yet that it's okay to stay silent and you don't always need to make conversation. And plus, he was friends with Kate way before i became friends with them, so theyr'e closer. Truthfully, he got on my nerves alot. Bit i'm pretty sure he knew that.
"That's cool, you and Kate sill going to the movies this Friday?"
I grinded my teeth but answered, "As far as i know, yes." I faced the window, meaning "stop talking", but then again. He's Daniel.
"Cool what movie you watching?"
"Dunno"
"I have a couple of suggestions, i'm a regular customer."
"I'll pass."
" Come on, I mean, we have nothing better to talk about."
"Honestly", i thought, "this kid really thinks that we have to talk about something.All. The. Time." I was about to open my mouth to tell him to frig off but Kate flicked him in the hair from behind.
"Daniel, shut up. She doesn't want a convo!!"
Thank God for Kate. He stayed silent.
The rest of the ride was just the other students talking. My seat and the one behind us, stayed silent.
