"Can you at least TRY to get her out of those clothes, they're hideous!!"
"Sir, that's what most of our newcomers have worn when they come. It's not the clothes though, that chain in her hand is the problem. I can't seem to pry it out of her hands."
"Go get a crowbar"
" D-Don't you think that's a bit... too much?"
"Not at all, what is that thing anyways?"
"I'm not quite sure but i will make it my duty to find out as soon as possible."
"Yes, you do that. Now, what about the boy?"
"The boy? Nothing as bad as the girl, although it seems he'll come about any time now."
"Then what are you doing here? You're suppose to be the first thing he sees when he opens his eyes! You fool, hurry and leave!!"
The conversation ended between the two and just listening to it was too much effort so i was forced to keep to myself and rest untill the killer headache i had, went away. Their conversation was no use anyways, i couldn't even make sense of it. But what i could make sense of was that my head was pounding, i was sweating because it was so hot and there was something in my hand that seemed of great importance in their conversation so i should probably hold on to it. It seemed important to me too. Funny, I didn't even know why. How am I even here? I tried to remember anything but all i got was fuzziness and an even bigger headache. My eyes were still being difficult and i couldn't open them. Leaving them closed i drifted off into yet another endless slumber.
**********************************************************************************
"OWwmmphhh," my eyes opened to the sound. I looked around wide-eyes afraid of whatever i heard but all i saw was a harmless looking man bending down to pick up whatever he had dropped. I sat up slowly in the bed i was laying on and as i did he got up holding the object he had dropped.
"Oh..." the man stared at me, dumbstruck." Oh.. i'm sorry i have woken you up from your sleeping ma'am. You may resume if you'd like. If not I can get Shirley to get you something to eat if you are hungry?" He stared at me waiting for me to respond. My lips were dry and so was my tongue. I couldn't talk and out of nowhere i was caught with a huge wave of deja vu.I licked my lips and managed to croak out a yes. He seemed to understand and walked out to go find 'Shirley'. He was limping and in his left hand he clutched a red crowbar. Poor guy.
I took in my surroundings and realized i was in a room, in a house. There were three pink walls and the last one was white. A window rested on the white wall and on the other side of the room was where i lay. To my right was a bedside table and on the wall to my left was a desk holding a lamp and laptop. On the wall to my right was a door leading out into a hallway. Just as i noted the solar panal outisde of the window a pretty, petite woman walked in carrying a tray. On it was a glass of OJ, a sandwhich and a bowl with ice cream. I eyed it, suddenly very hungry and noticing it, she hurried the rest of way over and rested it on my lap. I took a sip that emptied out half the glass and then looked up at her and smiled.
"Thank you..."
"Shirley, well that's what everyone calls me around here," she looked down and twisted her apron, then looked up and smiled. " But your welcome, I live to serve." She added and smiled but it didn't quite reach her eyes. She left and i didn't realize the little harmless man was standing behind her. Was everyone here little and short? He had an almost squarish head and he had small eyes. His nose was a bit on the wide side but everthing went together. He wore a simple red dresshirt that was too big for his frame and black pants to go with.
"I realized i haven't introduced myself. I'm Torrence." He stuck out his hand but I looked from his appearence to his hand and smirked.
"I'm sorry ma'am what do you find so funny? If you don't mind sharing...."
"Your name," the grin was still on my face but his was as confused as ever.
"And what about it? Is there something I should know about it?
Man this guy needed to go out more often. He didn't even know what his own name ment!
" Your name means something like 'a small hill" and you actually are..." I gestured towards his body, the smirk still on my face. He blushed a light pink and looked down at himself.
"Am i that... small?"
I stood up, he came to my shoulders. We looked at each other and started laughing. We finally stopped and he composed his serious face once again.
" Out of curiosity ma'am, how do you know what my name means... not many around here know Irish, English is our main language."
Suddenly i felt dizzy. I sat down and took a couple of breaths in and out. How did I know Irish? How am i even here? Suddenly it felt as if i had a hole going right through me, something was missing.
"Oh dear, oh dear ohdearohdear." The short man, Torrence stared at me. he looked as if he was about to die. "I am so very sorry, of course you would know Irish i mean everyone knows it around here." He laughed trying to sound convincing but not suceeding at it very much. He smiled at me but it didn't quite reach his eyes either. Weird.
I squinted at him and was about to open my mouth when Shirley walked in. She stared at the scene layed out infront of her and looked over at Torrence.
"Tori, Deuce is on the line, he would like to speak with you." She stared directly at him and watched him as he walked off into the hallway. The name had such an affect on him and the way she said it seemed like there was something big about it. Then she turned her attention to me and smiled, the not-quite-reaching-the-eyes kind.
"Will you be eating your lunch or not dear?"
Food, I looked over at it. I wasn't so hungry anymore but being the polite person i am I picked up the bowl of ice cream, " I'll eat this Shirley, i don't seem to be all that hungry anymore. I think i was just more thirsty." I held up the bowl and nodded at her.
" Very well then i'll just grab the tray, just drop the bowl off at the kitchen once you're done."
"Alrightty, i'll do that. Thanks a bunch Shirley i appreciate your doing." She stopped midway out the door and turned around. She looked at me, almost shocked and then getting over it walked off. I wonder what I said.
I sat at the foot of the bed feeding myself ice cream. Something pinched my butt. I jumped up and saw a locket lying on the bed. I picked it up and felt a shiver run up my spine. Taking it as a good thing i slipped it on and sat back down, spooning my mouth with ice cream. His mentioning of my past, it was weird i couldn't remember a thing. And the name, Deuce. I don't think i've ever met someone with that name. But when i hear the name i remember the words coming out of a small set of pink lips. The voice is soft and comforting. Dyooce. Suddenly I felt a headache coming on and the hole i felt earlier beginning to expand. I quickly finished the ice cream, not tasting it or feeling it. Dropping it off in the sink I saw Shirley again.
" I think i'm gonna lie down for a bit," I informed her.
"Sure thing hon, i'll wake you up for supper," she gave me another smile, the NQRTE kind. It freaked me out so I turned around and walked as fast as i could to the room, hoping that when i woke up I would be back to where fake smiles and empty holes didn't exist.
