I woke up and looked to the table where the clock told me it was 6:34. I rubbed my eyes to get rid of any sleep I had left and got off the bed. I walked over to the window and stared at the solar panel, I wonder who had put it there. I had a sudden flash of a staircase and a solar panel on the ceiling. I quickly cleared my head by shaking it and looked farther out. I could see a well kept lawn and a fence. On the other side of the fence I saw a blue beat-up car. There was a row of houses on the other side but no one was out walking their dogs or playing basketball. It was eerily silent. Scratching my neck I noticed the locket was still around it. I clasped the heart shaped metal and the moment I did I had another flashback. This time it was of a woman, very pretty. Her eyes were a light brown color and her lips were small and pink along with her nose. She had an angular face but everything about her showed kindness. Her hair was wet as if she had just gone for a swim and stuck to her, the color of a walnut.
A knock at the door awoke me from my daydreaming.
"Oh good, you're awake suppers ready I suppose you want some. You must be awfully hungry." Shirley stood there bunching up her apron nervously in her hands and staring at me.
"Uh yeah I'll be right there in a sec,"
She smiled and went back down the hall. I lifted the locket up a bit and opened it up. I almost fell back from what I saw, the same lady in my flashback stared back at me. She had a smile on her lips, but it looked emptier and she was holding a small little pink bundle. Her hair was not wet and it hung about her shoulders in waves. I looked at my own hair and realized it was exactly the same except my hair looked duller. I wanted to examine it some more but I was probably holding up dinner. I closed it and tucked it beneath my t-shirt, this necklace felt as if I had to protect it and the best way to do so was to avert it from the gaze of others.
"And then the lady stopped her car and she was told to get out but she refused!!"
"Oh did she? What happened then?"
I listened as Shirley and Torrence talking about something Shirley saw on the 'tube' earlier that day. I learned earlier during the meal that Torrence owned the house but Shirley had rented a room and paid for it by cleaning and cooking. They both seemed fine by the idea and said that's how many people got around here. I asked Shirley if she was around here and Torrence changed the subject immediately. Shirley glanced at me while Torrence was going on about his changed subject and gave me a smile. It actually seemed genuine but there was sadness to it too.
"So how do you like the house? I fixed it up after a...." Torrence paused in his sentence. "I made it after we had a huge natural disaster.... It looked much shabbier than this. It's nice isn't it?"
I smiled, "Yeah great work, it's really nice. What was the disaster that happened?"
"It... I uh well it was more like no it uhh... kind of like a wave a big one you know? A big one landed and hurt some of the houses and uhhh but the house is nice. I like what I've done."
"A Tsunami"
Torrence stared at me as if I had spoken gibberish. On the other hand Shirley stared at me in amazement.
Shirley nodded, "wow what's that. How do you spell that anyways?"
"It's when a destructive large wave of water that is very very powerful and it can wipe out towns and destroy a lot. It usually happens after an earthquake or something. And it's spelled T-S-U-N"
"Oookay!! What's for desert Shirley? I think we're all done our dinner."
I stared at Torrence who had rudely cut me off. I saw him giving Shirley a hard look and it was as if it was some code because she got up and agreed. She went into the kitchen to get the desert and I looked at Torrence.
