Someone shook me. No Air by Jordin Sparks played softly in my ears as i got up. Kate was standing in the aisle and Daniel was staring at me. Daniel was the most likely candidate for shaking me. I ignored that and looked to where everyone else was looking. At the front of the bus, there was a man and lady in their mid-twenties hushing everyone, trying to get their attention. I unplugged my headphones from the ipod and put it away, interested in what the two had to say.
" Okay, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Lakeview where you'll be spending the day hiking and learning more about our planet, Earth." The woman spoke in an over entusiastic tone. They looked as if they were born as hippies in their first life. Everyone on the bus groaned at the second part. I don't know why they signed up for the trip in the first place.
The man told us to gather our things and where we were to meet him, in the burgundy coloured cabin. After our english teacher, Mrs.Chapman and guidance Cousnseler settled us down we climed out of the bus and got into partners. We started walking towards the cabin and Kate was jumping for joy.
" Wow, this place is soo pretty. I would love to live out here!"
I smirked, " that's only if someone supplied you with your magazines and there was a Tim Hortons around the corner."
She laughed, "Summer, no I mean, well yeah that would be nice but I. Okay, just take a deep breath."
I did as she told and i could sense the air was much... cooler here and fresh, if that was possible. It also smelt familiar but once again i doubt that was possible. But it bothered me. As if i was here before. "Yeah it's more fresh." I agreed with her.
She smiled, glad she proved her point and linked arms with mine. I forced a smile as we walked the rest of the distance to the cabin.
The man instructed us to take off our shoes and put them in the cubbyholes in the back. Then he brought out pairs and pairs of boots.
"These," he began, " Will help us all walk much much more easier through the woods. I want everyone to pick out your size and as soon as they're on we'll be heading off into the unknown." He grinned at us and the lady helped us find our sizes. I got two size six and a halfs and walked towards Kate. We put them on and waited for our next set of instructions. The hippie lady whisispered something to the man and he grinned.
" Oh, i'm sorry guys i haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Trevor and this beside me is Jen." Jen gave an exagerated wave and smiled. " So i want everyone to line up by the door in partners and we'll head out. Our way into the woods i'll point out the trail we have to take and i want everyone to make sure they take it. No horseplay and if your're eating gum right now and think you're gonna want to spit it out. There's a garbage can right there. We want no littering." He clapped his hands as if we were in preschool and we all headed out.
I walked a bit ahead of Kate, listening to Trevor or as we could call him "Trev" pointed things out. We stopped in front of a couple of places and he described the different trees and what they're used for. We walked in silence for awhile, the only sound was of birds chirping and the other creatures talking. We stopped at a fork in the trail and "Trev" turned to face us.
" This is the fork in the trail," he said.
Well thanks for pointing out the olbvious.
" You guys choose which way you wanna go, right or left." The hippie, Jen finished off.
Everyone called out "rights" and "left" but Kate walked up behind me and whispered.
"None, i want a rest."
I laughed quietly and spoke, my back still turned, " And you wanted to live here, come on this actually is quite awesome. I mean how many times do you get to have this opportunity, this is be-utiful."
