My Cowboy with Benefits

Prologue

Maggie's P.O.V.

"Wyatt, what are you doing?"

"Texting."

"Who?"

"Just a friend."

"Okay."

I turn my attention back to the TV, even though I'm not really interested in what's on. He's been on his phone the whole damn time that he's been here. What the hell is so important that he can't get off his phone for five minutes and pay attention to his girlfriend?

"Maggie."

"Yes, Momma?"

"I need you to do me a favor."

"What?"

"Rachelle needs some money and I have to wait for the cable company to come fix the Internet. Can you run it to her? She's at the rodeo."

"Yeah." I get up off the couch and take the money from my mom. I swipe my keys off the table and head to the door.

"Where are you going?"

"I have to take some money to my sister. I'll be back."

"Well I need to get going. My dad wants me to help him fix his car."

"Okay. I love you."

"Love you too."

I give him a quick kiss. We both walk outside to our cars. I wait for him to leave before I pull out of the drive.

Pulling up to the rodeo, I spot Rachelle standing by her car. I park next to her and get out.

"Hey, Rache."

"Hey, Mag."

"Here's the money."

"Thanks. You wanna stay and hangout?"

"I would but I have to get back home. I promised Mom I'd make dinner tonight."

"Okay."

Her phone goes off. "Who was that?"

"A friend."

Judging by the smile on her face, it's more than a friend.

"A boyfriend?"

"Maybe."

"Do I know him?"

"No."

"Not yet, anyways. I'll see you at home."

"See you at home. Bye."

"Bye."

She's never mentioned a boyfriend. I wonder who he is. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

When I get back home, I see the cable van parked in front of the house. It's about time. The Internet has been out for nearly two damn weeks. It's been a long time.

Going inside, I head to the kitchen. I see my mom washing the dishes. I walk up to her and kiss her cheek.

"Hey, Momma."

"Hey, baby. Did you find your sister?"

"Yeah. She'll be home in a little bit."
