It had been a week since Pepper was in the hospital.

When she got back to school, pets had asked her if she was "ok".

Pepper shoed them off so she could have her space.

Justin walked up to her.

"Hey,"

"Hey."

Justin paused a minute, it looked like he was thinking about something.

"Well, Pepper," he started.

"Yeah?"

"Will you always be my friend?"

Pepper stopped. She looked confused.

"Well, yeah."

A grin spread across her face.

"Unless I'm to spicy for you."

Justin laughed.

"I prefer to look at the sweet side."

A few weeks later, Pepper stood in her kitchen, alone.

It was 2:00 in the morning.

Pepper had giant bags under her eyes. She was eating ice cream.

She was depressed.

Her Mom walked downstairs.

Uh oh...

Instead of telling her off, Mom took a more gentle approach.

"Sweetie? Are you ok?"

Pepper shook her head.

"What's wrong?"

Pepper ran to her and grasped her arm. She held on tight and hugged her.

Tears ran down her cheeks.

"I miss Dad." Pepper barely spook a whisper, it was so quiet her mother had to lean in to hear.

She stroked her daughters back.

"I know, I know. I miss him so much too."

"What happened to him?" Pepper looked up.

"Well, after we had you, he got sick with lung cancer. He died awhile afterward."

"Oh," Pepper felt tears run down.

"I want him back!" She felt like screaming.

She heard her mother sniff.

"Come on, let's go back to bed."
----------------------------------------------
Pepper woke up in a sad mood.

She felt that her life was miserable.

I missed everyone, everyone.

She walked out of her room in her purple pajamas.

"Come on, sweetie. Get ready for school."

"I'm not going." Pepper said, sighing.

"You have to." Her mother retorted.

"I don't feel good."

Her mother's eyes softened. She understood now.

"Okay, let's relax. I'll call in sick today."

"Thanks."

They spent most of the day sleeping.

Pepper soon felt better.

*ring, ring*

"Huh?"

She picked up the phone.

"Hey, Pepper. Can you come behind the briar bush? I'm in a tight situation here."

"Sure Justin, be right there."

She hung up.

"Mom, can I step outside for a few minutes?"

"Sure sweetie."

"Thanks."

Pepper ran out the door.

"Oh my gosh,"
