The next day, Pepper went to school merrily.
She didn't mind the bus pets, she didn't mind the school pets, and she didn't mind the school bullies.
She spent her days saving Justin's butt, talking with her Mom, visiting Derek and Ava, and swimming in the river with Justin.
Over summer she went to summer camp with many other school pets. Justin went there too.
Soon enough, Pepper became one of the most popular pets at her school.
During the next summer, Pepper would move to her summer home.
As she packed, Justin waited with some of her other bags.
"I guess this is goodbye," he said.
"Yeah, except I don't hate you."
"Yup."
Justin helped load the bags into the trunk.
As soon as he closed the trunk, he was taken by surprise as Pepper ran over and hugged him. He hugged her back. They squeezed each other tight. They finally let go as Pepper's Mom called.
"Let's go Pepper!"
"Coming!"
She got in the car.
Mom stood outside a moment.
"Thanks for taking care of my daughter." She said.
Justin shrugged. "Anytime."
Pepper's Mom smiled. She got in the car.
Pepper and Justin waved goodbye until they couldn't see each other anymore.
Off to the summer house she went.

When Pepper got back the week before school started, she got a text from Justin. It said:
I missed u.
She replied:
I missed u 2.
She smiled.
"Now, we're even."
