Justin had left the room.
Derek entered.
"Who's he?" He asked Pepper.
"Oh, that's Justin. He's one of my friends."
"Ok."
He asked her more questions and wrote stuff down.
Pepper lost interest in what they were doing. She closed her eyes.
Derek snapped his fingers.
"Oh!" Pepper shot up. Pain seared her legs and head.
"Sorry!" Derek apologized.
"It's okay."
Derek left the room soon, and Ava entered.
"Why do the nurses not leave me alone!" Pepper asked.
"Well, your chart for today's week came out perfect. All you need is one more day in here and you will be fully healed."
Pepper nodded hopefully.
Soon I'll be home with Mom again.
Pepper's Mom barely visited. She was to caught up in work. Said she didn't have time to visit.
Pepper missed her, and Justin.
But mostly Justin.

One night, Pepper's cuts bled like they never had before.
The nurses rushed around her, bandaged her.
One more week in the hospital.
Justin was standing at the doorway looking horrified.
"Will she be okay?" He asked, concerned.
Pepper screamed.
"Shh! It's okay," Ava tried to comfort her.
Pepper screamed again.
Derek pulled Justin over.
"Help her!" He barked.
Justin stroked Pepper's face until she calmed down.
Pant, pant.
Pepper's breathing was rapid. The bandages were on tight.
She blacked out.
