I was sitting in our room, the port window open, letting a cool breeze in, with as large as the ship was, you couldn't feel a single wave... I almost wish you could, I had always imagined Oliver and I living on a boat, sailing the world, I guess now, I'll just have to do it, by myself.
Oliver came in steaming "we need to talk" "really? You want to talk now?" "Well I'm afraid we have to..." "oh, your afraid? Afraid of reality, the truth" I slammed the port window shut. "I'm not afraid of the truth... it's just that maybe your right, maybe it's not so insane to have feelings for you" "then why the hell did you break up with me?" "Because Lotte, I was blind, I thought we needed some space to think..." "stop it with the bull shit Oliver, it's not like we were looking to advance our relationship, it's not as though anything big was about to happen, we weren't buying an apartment, we were just the same people as when we first met" "but we aren't" he cried out "yes we are!" I yelled "no Charlotte, we aren't, because, I care now, I care so deeply for you and your well being, since we've been together I've stuck my head outside of the box, and thought... I don't want to run my father's company... I want to..." "what do you want?" I snapped, bitter and angry with him "well I don't exactly know, but I want to get on that sail boat with you and just sail the world, exploring, nearly dying... I want to see it all... but with you" my heart felt as though it stopped, there was a pain in my chest, as though something was leaving me, but I hardly noticed as I walked slowly towards him "Charlotte, I know your mad but..." I kissed him mid sentence, and then walked out the door. "Charlotte wait!" I heard the door shut and his footsteps quickly catch up to mine "we have to go to dinner" I told him "oh..."
"So I was thinking we could start incorporating you into the business this year" his dad started, Oliver nodded along, stabbing his steak, not that his parents noticed, his jaw was clenching at every word, I knew before long he would burst, telling everything. I grabbed his hand under the table, squeezing it, he looked at me, smiling slightly. "I was thinking we could go dancing tonight" his mother randomly said during the awkward silence the twins had created by launching a melon ball into Olivers water glass, I was trying with all my might to not laugh, as was Oliver, because frankly their father did not think it was funny at all. "Sounds like a great idea, Blane, would you?" I asked dramatically holding my hand out "I would be honored Lotte" he took my hand and led me to the ballroom, the rest of them followed behind.
"You know how to waltz right?" I asked and he looked slightly offended "Lotte, I am a master of wooing women, if I did not know how to waltz, I would of failed my ballroom dancing class at Brighton, and I would not have debutants numbers in my phone" he smirked, leading me onto the dance floor, when we reached a far enough distance from the rest of the, he started asking questions "so what's really going on between you and Ollie?" "It's the same as it's always been... what do you mean?" "Don't lie, I know when people lie Charlotte, it's subtle, but you two look at each other differently, he looks at you with regret, and you look at him with resentment, I'll admit, you do a nice job covering it up... well enough my parents and others, even Brair doesn't see..." I didn't say anything as we danced by His parents "ok look, we broke up about 4 weeks ago, it was out of the blue, with no warning, one night I just get a call and he says he's breaking up with me, and just hangs up, with no explanation, and then the next morning he tries to act like nothing weird happened... we fought in front of everyone, in front of my sorority, his frat house, the stadium, student center, even in front of Starbucks." His eyes widened in amazement "I just thought maybe he said something bad, or looked at another woman, or maybe even cheated... but broke up... so why are you here, no offense, but... why?" "I was trying to move out of the house, and he comes up to me and I thought he wanted to cause another fight, but instead asks if I would still go on the trip, as his girlfriend... and for some reason I said yes" "well... I used to think Oliver was the boring one... now I'm not so sure" we both laughed at that, continuing to dance round and round.
