My mum tells me it was a cold October night when my dad, aunt, and uncle died. Dad had gone to Britain to visit Aunt Lily and Uncle James, along with my cousin Harry. I was only a year old when he left, and he never returned. Apparently, Voldemort, a dark wizard, had discovered where my aunt and uncle were, and killed them to be able to kill Harry. My dad was downstairs with Uncle James at the time, and was the first to be killed, because he tried to jinx Voldemort.

Obviously Voldemort didn't appreciate the gesture, and killed my dad. Then James tried to avenge my dad's death, and protect his family, but got hit full in the face with the curse. Finally Aunt Lilly refused to let Voldemort kill Harry, begging to be killed instead. Voldemort obliged, and then tried to kill my dad's namesake anyway.

That didn't end too well. See, something made the curse backfire, and Mr. I'm-so-powerfull basically killed himself, while Harry got this lightning bolt scar on his forhead. Then my cousin got sent to live with Aunt Lilly's sister, and that's where he's been since he was one and a half. My mum only told me this recently because I'm being sent to Hogwarts, in Britain, to become a witch like her.

So there I was, sitting in some empty compartment on the Hogwarts Express, when I heard some voices outside of the closed compartment door.

"Is there anyone inside?"

"No, I think its empty."

"You sure, Grace?"

"Course I'm sure, Melody. I'm always sure."

"I'm going to check anyway."

The door was opened and a pale skinned girl with long light brown hair and brown eyes stuck her head inside. She looked a little embarrassed, and was about to leave when another girl pushed her way through, this one with white-blonde hair and warm grey eyes that stood out in her pale face. Her features were sharp, but in a friendly way, and it made her look mature and elegant as she leaned in front of her friend.

"Oh, hello," she said to me, "Do you mind if my friend and I join you?"

"Not at all," I said, motioning around, "I could use the company."

"Thank you," she exclaimed, easing herself down into the seat opposite me, "I'm Grace M- Grace. Just Grace." Grace grinned nervously, and I wondered why she looked familiar, and why she had cut off telling me her last name. But suddenly the other girl grabbed my hand, and shaking it enthusiastically, said,

"The name's Melody Owens. What house do you suppose you'll be sorted into?"

"I'm hoping Gryffindor," I said, shaking her hand back, "The house of the brave and noble!" I drew an imaginary lightsaber and pretended to wave it around, making saber noises at the same time.

"You like Star Wars?" asked Melody, grinning.

"Yes," I said, "With a Jedi, We are sure to win the house cup! No one stands a chance! By the way, I'm Elena Potter, the 'Chosen One's' American cousin."

Grace chuckled softly, grinning at us, and said, "Yea, I thought the accent was familiar. I'm one of the only nice Slytherins you'll probably ever meet. I don't mind hanging out with muggleborns, or halfbloods; they actually usually have some funny stories."

I heard more voices outside, and in walked a girl with pale skin, dark brown hair, and ice blue eyes. With her was a pale skinned, brown haired boy with sharp grey eyes. They looked at each other, then the boy asked Melody,

"Hey, can we sit here?"

"sure," said Grace, gesturing to the seat next to her, "Who's that with you?"

"This is Jayden," said the boy, "Jayden St.Clair. Her mum died and her dad's gone missing, so Remus Lupin is taking care of her."

I nearly fell out of my seat in surprise, spluttering incoherently as I stared at the girl.

"What's the matter Elena?" asked Melody, helping me up, "Are you okay?"

"Yea," I said, "Just surprised. Uncle Lupin is my godfather, see. My dad was even closer to him than Uncle James was."

"That makes us related," said Jayden, starting to giggle, "Which means I'm related to Harry Potter!"

"That is cool!" I shouted, falling out of my seat again and banging my elbow on the wall, "Ow..."

The boy laughed, a loud, clear note, and helped me up. "I'm Eric Black, Sirius Black's son. My mum was Kaycee Black. That technically makes us related too, making me and Jayden related... Whoa, this is confusing."

There was an awkward silence, in which we all glanced at each other, before Jayden stood up and started singing in a loud voice;

"Colours, Colours, pastel colours, pink and purple, banana colours, I love colours!"

The compartment was silent again before I applauded and started laughing, soon joined by Melody and Grace, finally Eric. The compartment was filled with raucous laughter, but then we heard loud footsteps and voices outside the compartment. Standing up, Grace threw open the door and stood, glowering at whoever was on the other side for a minute before sitting back down.

In walked a pale skinned, grey eyed, blonde haired boy with sharp features like Grace's, but in a hard, bullying way. Next to him was a brown eyed, blonde haired girl, tall and a bit aloof. I recognized the boy, and stood up immeadiatly.

"Draco Malfoy," I spat, glaring at him. The Malfoys were a well known and respected pure-blood family, and known Voldemort associates. They hated muggles and muggleborns, along with half-bloods. Which, of course, meant I was held in disdain too. Draco looked at me, trying to look down his nose at me, even though I was at least three inches taller than him. The other girl seemed to recognize Jayden, nodding curtly at her before saying,

"I'm Chimera Dawnson."

I shook her hand, then pulled away and continued glaring at Malfoy. But he said something that surprised me so much that I stumbled backwards. Malfoy looked at Grace, and then said,

"Hello, cousin."
