"Jason! We have been walking for like days!" Maisie complained, her feet dragging against the dirt path we were on.
It's been almost four days since I had taken Maisie with me. Since then I've gotten her her own bag, new clothes, hiking shoes, other girly stuff (she wasn't very happy when I gave her Midol and pads), her own provisions, and a bed role. Now the only thing left to do is find her a weapon to protect herself, as of now she has my dagger that isn't that great to begin with, and she's show the she's not too good with it either.
"There has to be one around here somewhere." I mumbled, ignoring Maisie best I could. I searched into the trees, keeping an eye out for a base camp
"What are you looking for?" Maisie asked, jogging to close the ten foot space between us.
"A base camp like thing. I remember hearing old stories about Annabeth, Luke, and Thalia living off on their own. They made safe spots along the east coast, not only for themselves, but in case other demigods needed refuge. There are weapons, I hope." I explained to Maisie.
"Okay, but who are those people, and what are demigods? Wait. Nevermind." Maisie sighed. It's sad that she keeps forgetting everything I told her—except camp. I decided to not tell her, at least for a little while. I'd tell her when we got so far from it, that it' be pointless to go back. I didn't want to head back to camp and face Laurel.
We walked in silence for a bit, until I noticed a path going off the main one. It was beaten down before, but was over grown with weeds. On a tree trunk an omega was carved into it.
"Maisie, follow me." I said. I heard her sigh, and I bet she rolled her eyes.
"I have been following you for days." Maisie said dryly.
"Yeah, whatever." I rolled my eyes, I'm surprised I haven't just left her alone in the middle of nowhere yet. "It should be around here somewhere."
"What is? If you'd tell me then I could help you." Maisie's voice had some sass in it.
I sighed. "Fine. It's a camouflaged hut."
"That's it? Really? That can't be so hard."
I snickered. "Oh yeah."
"I don't know why you're laughing, it's camo! You can spot it in the woods no problem."
"If you say so." She was going to be in for a surprise, if she's thinking hunting camouflage.
We walked around into the woods, I kept losing the path, if it even was a path. Maisie kept huffing and kicking plants and rocks. I mean, it has been a couple of hours since I told her what to look for. She then groaned.
I laughed. "Are you getting frustrated?"
"Not at all! Where is this place?" Maisie huffed. "Did you get us lost?"
"No I did not. Besides, we aren't going anywhere in particular, so we can't get lost if we don't have a place to be."
"We do. That safe camp. Where is it?" Maisie demanded.
I sighed. "Look harder."
Maisie groaned very loudly. She was honestly quite annoying. I should get lost and leave her, but I'm too nice to do that.
We walked in peaceful silence for a few minutes, and I noticed a large mound covered with foliage. I grinned, finally we have found it! Or I found it. Maisie is kicking a rock around, not looking for anything. Quickly, I changed course and made way into the brush towards the safe camp. It took Maisie awhile to realize I wasn't in front of her.
