After I was forced to talk like an idiot and walk around blind as a bat Finny and Bard couldn't help but laugh at me. The lunch went well and dinner was quiet. it was late at night and Sebastian sent me into the kitchen to clean and put away dishes.
My hatred for that arrogant butler was more than a little up right now. I felt like I was looking through beveled glass. these spectacles were going to mess up my eyes.
When trying to put dishes away I crashed into someone and sent them flying towards the ground. The figure was a blurry mass of gray and green.
"Oh, I'm sorry... Finny? Bard?" I asked.
"No, it's Ciel Phantomhive," a young child's voice sighed.
"Oh master Ciel, I am terrible sorry!" I cried reaching out for him. I felt him take my hand and I pulled him up.
"I like the voice you've made," he said approvingly taking the spectacles from my face.
"Are these an old pair of Tanaka's?" he asked himself looking through the spectacles through his one good eye. I had never seen the child this close before. I had failed to realize that he even had an eyepatch. The closest I had been to him was when I was held down in front of him when I was offered the job and it was night then.
"Well these won't do they are terribly too strong. We will have to get you some new ones so you can still act like you can be a maid," I scowled at that last part but was amazed at the boy's behavior. He had never shown such kindness to me.
No one had ever treated me kindly. This boy allowed me to wear dresses and cared about being able to do my job.
Something struck me. "Master why are you in the kitchen?" I asked.
"I saw Sebastian made sweets for tomorrow but he wouldn't let me have any," I almost laughed. This child who never once acted like anyone his age was pouting over sweets.
"Alright," I laughed in my fake voice. I had to admit it was pretty fun talking like this. I took a piece of chocolate cake from the cart behind me and handed it to him.
He gave me back my spectacles and set his cake down on the counter to eat it.
"Would you like some milk?" I asked.
"Yes," he answered through bites of cake.
I got him a glass of milk and stood opposite him. he looked so small. he acted so arrogant most of the time he seemed older. His gray fringed haircut was odd for a boy.
"If you don't mind me asking, how old are you master?" I asked.
"I am ten," he answered.
"You are ten years old and running a toy company?" I asked. "don't you have any other family?"
"I have an aunt on my mother's side and an aunt on my father's side," he said finishing his cake. I took his plate and rinsed it off in the sink.
"I decided to take up my father's business and no one doubted me. No one wanted to disappoint me after the death of my parents." a silence followed after that.
"Do you see your aunts often?" I asked.
"Well it has one been six months since I've been back. I have seen my mother's sister only once and I will see my cousin on my father's side for the second time tomorrow." he explained.
"What do you mean since you got back?" I asked.
His head flew to the door where Sebastian was waiting with his arms crossed.
"You are supposed to be in bed," he sighed.
"I was thirsty," the child answered showing his butler the glass of milk. Sebastian motioned for Ciel to follow him. Ciel handed my the glass and looked up at me.
"I do not wish to speak of it for a long time," he whispered softly before following his butler back to his room.
I thought that kid had never seen pain. I feared then if that child had experienced more pain then I could even fathom. That small child had to grow up in a very short time. Ciel Phantomhive could hardly be called a child anymore.
---
I retired to my room and changed out of my uniform and into a night gown. I set the terrible spectacles on my night stand and crawled into my bed. I always dreaded the night. I saw all of my victims faces when I closed my eyes for the night.
I had really started to have night terrors since I had started living here. I heard the house creak at night and would 'He has come for me!'
I was always anxious. As I drifted off into sleep a voice was calling me. A voice that was almost always followed with pain.
