Chris's POV
Today I woke up to the smell of my mothers cooking. I got up and went to the kitchen and saw that she already had me a plate waiting. “Morning.” I said. “Good morning.” My mother smiled. “How are y'all doing today?” “Good.” My father answered. “Great.” I started eating. “Chris are you serious?” My mother asked. “About what?” “Having a woman pregnant.” “Yes, I wouldn't lie about this.” “Wow.” “I'm sorry.” “Speaking of Mia, I need to go and talk to her.” “Why?” “I went and pissed her off last night.” “Really?” “Yeah.. I'll be back.” I went and took a shower then got dressed. I texted Mia to see if she was busy but she didn't respond. I called her a few times but still nothing so I decided to just head over. I told my parents I was leaving then left. When I got to Mia's house I rang the doorbell. It took a few minutes then she opened the door. “What are you doing here Christopher?” “We need to talk.” “I'm not really in the mood to talk to you right now.” “I'm sorry about last night..” “You're not going to leave are you?” “No.” She shook her head and let me in. “We should talk.” “We talked yesterday.” I could tell she was irritated. “I know but..” She closed the door and walked pass me. “Listen.” She went to the living room so I followed her. She sat down so I did too. “I'm sorry.” “You said that.” “It's just that I'm still trying to figure this out..” “My phone beeped. I was about to put it on mute when I saw it was a text from Tony. “I need to see you asap it's about Mia.” I was confused but I figured I'd go see what he wanted. “I'll be back.” “Ok.” I'm pretty sure she was over this anyways. I left and went over Tony's house.
When I got to Tony's house I rang the bell and he opened the door. “Come in.” He said. “What?” “Before you get pissed off just let me finish without you cutting me off.” “What?” “I did some digging on ol' girl.” “What?” “I asked around about Mia.” “Why?” “Because I'm looking out for you.” “Ok Tony.” I went and sat on his couch. “Well I asked a few people I know about her.” “And?” “And it's not good. She's been lying to you.” “About what?” “Everything man.” “Want to elaborate?” “My friend Jane said she knows Mia and a guy she use to date. His name is Lance and it's a good chance he could be the baby's father.” “What?” I knew this had to be BS. “Yes.” “We took a DNA test.” “Right. Jane also said that she knows that Mia use to mess with a guy name Peter.” “Mhm.” “She gave me his number so I called him. He told me that he thinks he's the baby's father and that if the DNA testing says otherwise it's because Mia's friend Lynn works in the DNA diagnostics facility. Then! He told me that her family wasn't in different states they all live in Maryland.” “And you're sure he was telling you the truth?” “He said you can call him and he'd tell you whatever you wanted to know. He has nothing to his.” “Why would she lie?” “Why wouldn't she is the question. I told you bitches like that only see dollar signs.” I just shook my head. “This can't be right.” “Call him and talk to him yourself.” He gave me the number. “I don't know.. I think I should talk to Mia and at least give her the chance to explain.” “Or call him over then tell her ass to come over then see what she has to say. She can't lie with him standing there.” I knew that was a bad idea but I really need the truth. “Thanks man.” “What are you going to do?” “Tell my parents to go home then I'm going to talk to Mia.” “Oh, call me if you need me.” “Alright.” I left Tony's house and went and sat in my car. There were so many things running through my mind. “Why would she lie? What did she think she would get out of it? Is money that serious? Did she think I wouldn't find out?” I shook my head and pulled off. I felt terrible but the other part of me couldn't help but feel relieved.
When I got home I called my parents to the living room and started. “You're not going to be able to meet Mia today.” “Why?” My mother asked. “Because we got into a fight and right now I don't think it would be a good idea.” “You can't put it past you for tonight?” My father asked. “Usually I could dad but Mia and I still have a lot to work out.” They all looked at me for a few seconds. “Alright.. I guess we'll go home then.” “Thanks for understanding.” When they left I went to Mia’s house. When she let me in I went to the living room. She closed the door and came in behind me. “We need to talk.” I started. “Ok?” She was just looking at me. “A friend of mine told me some stuff about you and I just need answers.” She looked confused. “Sure.” “My friend Jane..” “I don't know a Jane.” “She knows you.” “Ok?” “She told me that you had a boyfriend named Lance and he could possibly be the father of the babies.” She was looking at me with a blank look. “And you believed her?” “I don't know what to believe.” “Well I don't know what to tell you Christopher.” “Is it true?” “Obviously it isn't true.” She snapped. “How do I know that?” She exhaled. “You're just going to have to take my word for it.” “That's not enough.” I snapped. “That's too bad.” “I'm going to need something more than that.” “What did Jane give you?! Words?! Did she give you proof Christopher?! What did this Lance douche give you?” “Clarity.” I could tell I was pissing her off but I didn't really care. “So they gave you absolutely nothing and you believe them?” “I..” “So that's a yes?” “Why are you so mad?” “Because I've been nothing but upfront with you and time after time you've called me a liar. I'm done with this. If you want to believe these Lance and Jane characters fine! But don't come here and insinuate that I've lied to you.” “Then prove it.”
