the long arrival

I grab onto his shoulders and feel a burning pain go up my spine and settle in my abdomen.

"Katniss we have to get you to the hospital." Peeta says and walks back down the stairs and sets me on the couch.

"Annie!" Peeta shouts and she comes running down the stairs and looks at me with fear in her eyes.

"Katniss is in labor is there a hospital near by?" Peeta asks as Annie walks over to me and rubs my back as I get a painful contraction.

"I'm gonna have to call a baby sitter right quick Katniss, I'll be right back" Annie says and leaves me in the living room, with Peeta rubbing my back as I get contractions.

"Yes there is one about three blocks away and the car is in the garage." She says, and throws him the car keys, he rushes out to get the car. By the time Peeta gets back with the car these contractions are five minutes apart. When we are getting in the car the babysitter shows up and takes care of Finn.

Annie helps me up and I lean on her for support as I moan in pain. Peeta switches spots with Annie and sits with me in the back seat. I lay my head on his lap and cry from the pain. It takes about ten minutes to get to the hospital and when we do Annie runs in and gets a nurse to come out to the parking lot. She wheels me in and Peeta follows, so does Annie.

We get up to labor and delivery and we get a room, I lay in bed and moan in pain as these contractions continue to get stronger. A women who is about 34 walks in and introduces her self to us.

"Hello my name is Doctor Bailey and I will be your midwife during your birth, Katniss on a scale of one to ten how would you rate your pain." She asks and grabs a clip board.

"A solid five." I whimper as the contractions get stronger. She nods, writes what I said down and pulls up an ultrasound machine.

"Ok Katniss I'm gonna give you a quick ultrasound to see where the babies heads lie, this will depend on if you give birth vaginally or not" I nod and squeeze Peeta's hand. she squirts gel on my large bumps and rubs the transducer around a bit. When she is done she pushes the nurse button.

"What's wrong Doctor, are the babies ok." I ask as I start to panic

"Katniss the babies feet are facing the birth canal, so if you give birth vaginally you could strangle the babies, we will have to do a cesarean section." She tells us as two nurses run in and start to roll my bed down to the operating room.

In the process the doctor throws Peeta a pair of scrubs and instructs him to put them on. Annie has decided that she is going to wait outside until the twins are born. once we are in the OR the surgeons instruct my to sit up so they can give me the epidural. Once that is all done they place a sheet to cover my face and the surgery begins.

Peeta is sitting next to me holding my hand whispering sweet nothings in my ear. After about 20 minutes I hear a cry of life.

"It's a boy." Doctor Bailey says with joy in her voice. I look over and see Peeta with tears in his eyes as the doctor brings Luke over to us so we could get a look. While we are looking at him I hear another cry.

"It's a girl." The doctor proclaims and cleans Willow up. When she is done she stitches me up and they roll me back down to the maternal ward. Rolling right next to me is a cot with my babies. Once we get back to the room Annie is sitting there with a grin on her face.

"Do these babies have names?" The nurse asks prepared it write it down on their birth certificates. Peeta and I look at each other and grin.

"For the boy, Luke Aster Mellark, and for the girl Willow Rue Mellark." We both say and the nurse smiles , writing there names down on their birth certificates. She hands us Luke and Willow and leaves us by ourselves. I hold both twins in my arms as tears of joy steam down my face.

"Happy birthday Willow and Luke, welcome to our hectic world."
