Chocolate brownies

It had been a couple of days since I had spent the evening talking to Charlotte or Charley as I soon learnt she likes to be called. Despite all of her awkwardness she was actually a really good listener and even though she didn't appreciate my 'stalker' joke she was actually really funny and sarcastic just like me. I had given her the washed over version of why I was staring into an empty cup for an hour. In short she knows that I had met someone I couldn't stop thinking about and although she was smiling all the way through I don't think she really wanted to listen to my pathetic love life. I had asked her about her life and I gathered that she was at University like me but studying art and doing part time work at the café. She told me that she was currently single which she was all too happy to divulge after my story and if I wasn't before I was sure then that she liked me if dropping the single hints wasn't enough. If I didn't want to encourage her I probably shouldn't have swapped numbers but in truth I enjoyed the attention, and she was really nice to top it off, besides living in a fictional world probably wasn't healthy. I mean was my story really going to end like the end of a Cinderella film where the shoe fits and we live happily ever after? Whilst thinking of Charley my mobile startled me out of my daydreaming as I noticed she had sent me a message:

Charley: Hi Ash its Charley here
Want to meet up?

I quickly reply without thinking too much about it.

Me: Yeah sure, sounds good x

I put a kiss at the end and wonders if she will read too much into it.

Charley: Meet me by the lake in the park? Let's say 6pm? X

Me: Yeah will see you there x :D

By the lake in the park, it sounded like a date. I just shrug to myself as I turn back to my essay I had to write for Uni. I had taken history thinking it was going to be easy but I was wrong, however I still loved the subject so writing 10,000 words on a historical subject was almost fun. I did say I was boring didn't I and Charley likes boring so even if this was a date it would be a match made in heaven. I chuckle to myself before looking around at surrounding tables to make sure no one thought I was crazy, luckily no one looked up from their laptops. I took a bite out of my chocolate brownie wiping the crumbs off of my keyboard. My Uni campus refectory did the best cakes despite all the posters about healthy living taped up everywhere. I tried to get back to my writing but my mind kept drifting to what I decided I would call the non date. I get easily distracted, I was the queen of procrastinating.

I decide to pack up my stuff after realising after 30 minutes of staring blankly into space I wasn't going to get any more work done. I chuck my bag and laptop in to the passenger's seat and turn up the radio and set off back home.

I stare at the clock on my wall, it was currently 4pm yet I was wondering what I should wear to the date that wasn't actually a date...or was it? If Charley thought it was a date then she was expecting me to dress better than I currently was. I was currently wearing a pair of joggers and a hoody...chavtastic. But if she didn't think it was a date then I would look like a fool wearing a dress and heels. I jump over to my overflowing wardrobe that my mum had often attempted to clear up but just as often failed at.

"Nope....nope....nope" I say out loud pulling through the numerous hideous clothes I owned, maybe I should actually clear it out. I settle on a blouse and black jeans with a pair of pumps. I take my findings to my mirror. I suddenly realised I should definitely change my hair that had turned into a mess somewhere between university and the car ride home. I grab my straighteners and attempt to tame the beast. My hair is an auburn colour which I absolutely loved unfortunately it was the only part of me that I loved with as much enthusiasm. I had greyish eyes that were neither blue nor green but I had always thought as dull unlike charley who had hazel or the girl from the bar who had amazing green eyes.

Between straightening my hair and applying my makeup I glanced at the clock and noticed it was coming up to 6, I threw a purse in a bag and ran downstairs towards my car.
