The park Charley wanted to meet at was a little way out of town, about a ten minute drive, it was one of the local beauty spots that a lot of walkers liked to visit. I pull up into the almost deserted car park. There was one other vehicle there, a pink vespa scooter and I smiled to myself knowing this was probably Charley's form of transport. I stepped out of my car taking a look around the park but not seeing any sign of Charley. I make my way over to the lake area of the park soon noticing a picnic rug beside the water. On the rug were a bottle of apple juice and a box of chocolates. I had been spot on knowing that Charley would be assuming this was a date. The thought made me grin even wider though. I hadn't been on a date in a long time. Now I just had to find Charley. I looked around the lake but I couldn't see her, I didn't want to sit on the rug assuming it was hers in case some scary old man comes over claiming it's his. I wander around the lake before spotting Charley back at where I left the rug and I make my way back over to her. She didn't notice me immediately but when she did her mouth turned up into a smile and her she soon started to blush, it was definitely trademark of hers and made her even cuter. Wait did I just think of her as cute? I had only known her all of a couple of days and I was starting to think of her as cute. Ugh. But then again I all but fell in love with someone who I had ran into in a bar.
"Hi there" she almost squeaks.
"Yeah hi" I reply.
She was wearing a flannel shirt and a pair of denim shorts, suitably dressed for the balmy summer evening. "I guessed right" I blurted out suddenly wishing I wouldn't always speak my mind.
"About what?" she asked inquisitively.
"That this is a date right?" I mumble quietly. Her face turned a deeper shade of red.
"Oh I didn't, no this is not...unless you want it to" she stuttered adorably. Adorably? Yuck I was turning soft.
"Of course it is, the location, the set up, and I really don't mind, I'm happy if it is" I grin.
"I know we've only just met properly but I like you" she whispers almost inaudibly.
I knew she liked me and I guess I liked her too, I had already thought of her as adorable and cute and I never ever used words like that to describe anyone. I still didn't know how to reply to her confession though. I make my way over to the picnic rug and sit down, she didn't immediately follow so I patted the space beside me. I looked at her directly in her eyes which made her anxiously glance away before looking back.
"Let's make this our official first date then" I smile.
Her beaming smile in return made my stomach flip a little, I enjoyed seeing her happy. Despite the little amount of time we knew each other for as clichéd as it sounded, it felt like we've known each other for a lot longer.
