NOTE: Read the AN because I needed to thank you for the amazing year you gave me, and I did it there ;)

                                                                   85.

If she'd survived, I would kill her myself.

It was a quarter past midnight, Angel asleep since the moment she came home with Lana (according to what the woman had said), and both of us, still awake, were sitting on the couch and picking on our nails, trying desperately to talk to Scarlett, but it went straight to voicemail every single time.

She had to be insane. Had to be out of her mind to go on her own to Tyler's house again. Hadn't she learnt anything from previous experiences? She, out of everyone, should know him the best; should know the situation well enough to not make the same mistake once more.

And she had promised to me she wouldn't. God knows why I even believed her, though. She was the most stubborn person I've ever met, and yet I gave her my trust. I don't know which of us is the dumbest; probably both.

"That's it, Lana, I'm going after her," I said, already standing to my feet once the call went straight to voicemail once more; pocketing my phone and smiling gratefully at the woman next to me when she handed me my car keys, looking grateful for having me there. "I'll call you if anything's wrong."

She nodded, holding my hand briefly and cupping it between both of hers, tapping it gently as if to give me some comfort. She knew the result would be bad, too. Damn it. I was going to murder Scarlett as soon as I laid my eyes upon her.

Feeling unstable enough already, I stormed out the door, ignoring the screaming change of the temperature, and focusing on the fire of fear and anger burning inside me. I could not see Scarlett that wrecked again; could not even picture the scene, how bruised and fragile she looked, how hurt and-

"Harry, what are you doing here?" her voice sounded as soon as she left some blue truck parked by the curb, a box between her hands and a frown between her brows. Before I could register what was going on, a guy showed up from the other side of the car, slamming the door closed and coming to help Scarlett with whatever she was carrying.

"You f-cking idiot!" I mumbled, walking toward her, too, and pulling her into a hug when the guy next to her took the box away from her arms. "I should kill you right now! What do you have in mind, really? You told me Lana was going with you!"

Scarlett rolled her eyes, pushed me away and retrieved her box, looking gratefully at the guy and mumbling a 'thanks' to him. Right after, she glared at me, standing still in the middle of the snow with an annoyed look plastered to her face.

"She was going with me. But she ended up not being able to, and so she didn't. Simple as that. I didn't lie," she shrugged, walking past me and bumping our shoulders on her way. "Zach came with me, though. Because I know how over-protective both you and Lana are of me," then she stopped briefly, seeming to remember something important. "Oh, by the way. Zachary, this is Harold. Harold, Zachary."

The guy - Zachary - huffed out a laugh, looking fondly at her. He was quite the scary type - pierced lips and ears, tattoos showing low on his neck where his scarf wasn't covering, dark clothes and hair, and everything, really. I assumed he was one of Tyler's friends. "What's with the formality?" he asked then, directed toward Scarlett, his voice just as dark. Then, "Nice to meet you." And he was quite the nice type, though.
