Nothing changes

Vanilla and Cinnamon

It had been about a month since you and Eridan met and you could already tell you were going to like him. He was always so kind to you. So understanding and companionate and seemed to care a lot about your feelings. He was also interested in a lot of the same things as you, which was really cool.

You and him decided that instead of meeting at the library like normal, you'd meet him in the park for lunch. Although there was still snow on the ground, today wasn't windy and the temperature was comfortable and felt warmer than normal.

   Before you met with him, your job was to get you both coffee and his was to pick up a lunch. The park was only a 5 minute walk from your apartment complex and there was a small cafe that you visited on occasion. That would be the nice place to get your drinks.

   Once you entered the cafe you felt warm. The theme was red and orange and it smelled of homemade pastries. That was one of the reasons you loved this place. But upon looking around and thinking about what Eridan would like to drink, since the text he sent you back right after you asked was "surprise me >;)". You saw sollux.

   He looked sad. A lot sadder than you've seen him in awhile and you almost felt bad. Then a ting in your stomach came up and you suddenly remember how used and dirty you still feel. He was staring at his phone, maybe you can walk up to the counter without him seeing you and make a hasty exit. Right after you thought that he looked up. Too late.

   "Aradia!!" He said almost yelling and getting up out of his seat.

  You started walking towards the counter, you didn't want any part of him.

   "Aradia please. I tried texting you last night, I even called and you wouldn't answer" he said sounding like he was going to have a mental break down. He was behind you now, you stopped and turned to face him.

   "I saw" is all you said before you started walking again.

   "I needed you, you said you'd always be there for me ara! I need someone right now and your walking away" his hand grabbed your shoulder so you turned to him again. Tears were starting to form in his eyes and yours. You hated this, why did you feel bad for him, you don't even KNOW what he's going on about.

   "That was before you cheated on your girlfriend with me" you whispered. People were starting to look at you two now.

   "She's not my girlfriend anymore" tears started to roll down his face. "I need you. I need someone to talk to and right now I don't have anyone."

   "Sol-" you were cut off.

   "Please AA"

   "Fine okay? But I have somewhere to be right now. We can meet up later" you say and walk away from him. He stands in that spot for a few seconds then You see him walk away and leave the cafe. You order you and Eridan's drinks and head to the park. Once you got outside you started crying, you tried to stop it before You got there but couldn't. He was waiting at the front gate with a backpack. He ran up to you once he saw you.

   "Hey ara!!" He said, you hid your face in your scarf.

   "Hey Eri" you said and sniffed a little.

   "Is everything okay?" He leaned down so his eyes were level with yours "you've been crying, what happened?"

    You looked at him not really sure the exact reason of why you were crying so much. "Im not sure" you stutter "I saw sollux again, In the coffee shop. He was really upset and told me he needed to talk. I think him and feferi broke up"

Eridans face went completely blank. You couldn't read his expression at all. "Oh" was all he said before he straightened himself out. "You're not gonna start dating him are you ?"

"I don't think so" you said looking up at him. He wasn't making eye contact with you anymore. Everything fell silent and this is the first time you've felt awkward around him. "Do you wanna find a place to sit?"

He shrugged his shoulders and started walking into the park, not looking back to see if you would join him. You walked a few steps behind him, he seemed a bit distant.

"What about here?" He pointed down at a picnic table, the snow had already been dusted off by other people.

"That looks perfect Eridan" you smiled at him, he looked at you and it was almost as if he glared.

You sat next to him and handed him his coffee. "Im not sure how you like it so I sorta guessed" you said looking up at him again.

"That's fine" he said very plainly, taking his coffee in his hands.

You both sat there for a couple minutes in silence taking small sips of your hot coffee.

"Eridan?" You ask. All you got was a small sound out of him. "Is everything okay?" You look up at him again and he's just starting at his coffee. "You seem sad"

"I am sad" he says and looks at you. "Im also kinda scared" he says and does a nervous laugh.

"Scared?" You ask.

"Yeah" he says looking back at his coffee. "Its kinda complicated"

"Tell me about it. I wanna hear" you rest you head on his arm.

"I think I might have a crush on you ara" he pauses for a few seconds. "Im just worried Im gonna lose you before I have the chance to actually know you really well-"

   "Eridan" you interrupted, he looked at you with a worried look on his face. "Im not going back to sollux. He's not worth my time anymore. I like you too, so let's both just have fun today" he smiled and you gave him a small kiss on the cheek.

   He put his book bag in front of him and brought out a thermos with hot soup in it, some mini bags of chips and a candy bar for you. You both ate and talked about your pasts.

   "You know ara" he said finishing his soup. "Me and feferi used to be best friends before she met that douche"

   "Wait really??" This was surprising.

   "Once she started dating him she said she couldn't hang around me cause he didn't like me. So we parted. It hurt at first, but if she was ever really my friend she wouldn't have left me so quick. So I guess it wasn't a big loss after all" he smiled and looked down at you. You never noticed how much taller he was till today.

   "I never knew" you said looking up at him. You were both silent again. "You wanna go on a walk?"

   "Sure" he gathered up everything, threw most of it away then you were both walking towards the nature trail.

After awhile of talking and laughing about stupid things, you both decided you were freezing and it was time to go home.

Once you reached the front gate of the park, you gave him a hug. He was warm and smelled amazing, you could've stayed there for a lot longer than you did.

"Ill text you ara" he said with a smile when he broke the hug.

"Please do" there was a light blush on your cheeks. You want to get closer with him. A lot closer.
