“Oh. Well...that’s...interesting,” I said, frowning as I thought that through. “Did she mean like...next, like...Mason next? Or like…” I groaned. “I don’t even know what I’m saying.”
He smiled a little. “I’m pretty sure she meant I was next to be taken.” I nodded quickly, getting up and starting to pace.
“Well, uh...okay then. That’s easily solved. Just don’t go into different compartments. Stay with a buddy at all times,” I said, but my heart was racing and I was extremely nervous. I couldn’t lose James. I just...I couldn’t.
“Sure,” he said, but he didn’t sound convinced. I wasn’t either. Isabel was some demon thingamabob. What were we against her? Ugh. This was so confusing.
“Hey,” I heard, before turning and seeing Carter. “What’s going on here?” He asked, looking between us confusedly. And was that...jealousy? I shrugged it off. He had nothing to be jealous of.
“Nothing,” I said, and I couldn’t help but make my tone harsh. I was still upset that he had just brushed off my dream the other day. He just nodded and I sighed. I sat beside James again and Carter obviously caught on to the movement.
Carter sat beside me, and he turned my chin so that I was looking at him. “You’re not still upset, are you? I’m sorry I blew you off like that. I didn’t know it meant so much to you,” he said. I bit my lip. He was apologizing? It was kind of sweet.
I smiled a little, and shrugged. “It’s fine. I suppose it did sound sort of crazy, huh?” He shrugged also and I smiled again.
“So we’re good?” He asked. I thought about it. Well...he did bother to apologize. That meant something, didn’t it? I nodded hesitantly, and a grin broke out on his face. “Yay!” He said, and I couldn’t help but laugh at how silly that sounded. He hugged me and I hugged him back.
James stood up quickly. “I’m going to go,” he said, and I watched him walk away with a frown on my face. What was wrong with him?
“Weird,” I muttered. Carter didn’t say anything, but he had a weird smug look on his face. I looked down at my lap but quickly looked up as I heard a bang. The blond stewardess was back.
“Oh, lookie who’s here.” Carter muttered, and I watched as it seemed the whole other group of people also knew her. She started handing out plates of food and I couldn’t help but notice how it was slightly downgraded. It went from restaurant types of food now to what looked like corn dogs and macaroni and cheese. Odd.
I was observing her and others as she came near, and I couldn’t help but noticed how all of the males seemed to be entranced by her, including Carter. He didn’t really seem to care when she was farther away, but as she came closer he seemed almost entranced. His eyes watched her hips and chest and I felt disgusted to be near him. His eyes had taken on an almost hungry look as she had gotten closer. He felt my gaze on him and he quickly glanced at me, blushed, and looked away.
I returned to staring at her, and noticed for the first time just how truly beautiful she was. I’d never really paid attention, but I saw that she had a nametag right about her left breast. I choked on my own spit as I read the name, causing Carter to turn to me and ask if I was alright. I nodded quickly, my face paling as I figured out just how creepy this all was.
‘Desdemona’ her nametag read. While it might sound like a perfectly normal name to anyone else, I had gone about searching up baby names when my sister was to be born a few years ago, to help my parents. I had thought the name pretty; even suggested it to my parents, where they quickly waved it off. “It’s a pretty name, honey, but it has a bad meaning. I wouldn’t want any child of mine to have such a horrid meaning.”
