“Mmmmm…” I moaned. “This…” I took another bite. “Is so…” I paused to chew, so I didn’t look like a pig. “GOOD!” I exclaimed, closing my eyes to savor another bite. I opened my eyes to see Pepper and Ella laughing at me, and all the boys kind of just looking at me like I was crazy.
“Got a problem?” I asked, raising my eyebrow in a dare for them to say something. James rolled his eyes, and (of course) said something.
“Yeah. We’re stuck on this crazy train with some crazy people who thought this would be a great idea for a prank, and you’re over here enjoying the food and acting like nothing’s going on.” He stated.
“Well, what do you suggest we do, oh wise one? It’s not like we can get out of here. The door’s locked, the windows are too small to climb through...there’s nothing else we can do except for eat.” I said, and he just frowned.
“I just don’t like not doing anything. There has to be something; I mean, what in the world is even going on!? It doesn’t make any sense. It’s just..” he shook his head and stopped talking.
I stood up, placing my plate on the seat a bit reluctantly. I walked over to him and gave him an awkward hug, placing my arms around him uncomfortably. “I know this sucks...I don’t get it either. It’s easier for me because I’ve just always been the type of girl who accepts things as they come.
“I’m just eating and relaxing right now because I know there’s no way to get out. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a time when we can..” I searched for the right word. “Escape? They’ll get tired of pranking us and let us go.” I said. He looked at me, and sighed, putting his ‘tough’ facade back on.
“Well when that time comes…I’ll be ready to beat someone up.” He said, walking over and grabbing a plate. He sat down, and everyone shrugged and followed him.
I smiled a little, feeling accomplished that I’d calmed him down. I sat back down, grabbing my plate full of deliciousness.
Just as I was licking my plate clean (What!? Don’t judge me! You don’t even know how amazing it was!) I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.
Isabel.
My eyes narrowed and I left my plate on the seat again as I got up. “So how’d they trick you into this? They told you it’d be a big joke? Who was it, your brother? Sister?” I asked, and suddenly everybody’s attention was on us. What sick person would pull their little sister into this?
She looked up at me in confusion. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said, tilting her head and squinting her eyes as if to get a better look at me.
I rolled my eyes, annoyed. “Oh, please. Don’t act as if you aren’t in on this. You’re like, what? Four? Five?” I asked, raising my eyebrows. “This is a very mean joke someone is playing on us.” I said. “It’s not very nice of you to join them in playing this joke on us.” I said, trying to speak more like a four-five year old would understand.
She frowned. “What? What joke?” She asked, and her face was so convincing I almost believed her.
“Oh, come on. You don’t have to pretend not to know what’s going on to protect your brother or sister. We know it’s a joke. Hardy har har. So can you please tell them to stop? It’s not funny and I really...really...need to get home,” I said, my eyes widening in shock as I realized I was probably going to get caught sneaking out. What time was it?
I dug in my back pocket for my phone, but couldn’t find it. I frowned, my eyebrows furrowing, as I went over to the seat I was sitting in earlier and inspected it for my phone. “Uh...guys? I can’t find my phone.” I said.
“Me neither!”
“I can’t find it either!”
“What’s going on!?”
“This is a sick joke,” I heard all those comments being chorused and my face paled even more as everyone realized that there phones were gone. Kaput. Disappeared.
James stomped forward, taking us all by surprise as he shook the little girl by her shoulders. “How dare you!? You little pickpocket give me back my pho-” before he could finish his sentence he suddenly started spasming.
His eyes rolled back in his head, just the whites of his eyes showing. He started frothing at the mouth and shaking uncontrollably, falling on the floor with a loud ‘thump!’. Several screams followed as we all cowered away from his shaking figure. He let out a piercing scream, before suddenly falling quiet.
We all stood, open-mouthed, staring at Isabel as she started to shudder; but this wasn’t like James. It was like a vibration throughout her body.
She closed her eyes, and stayed still until Carter whispered, in a scared voice. “What did you do?”
Her eyelids flew open, creating gasps and quite a couple of squeals as we took in her pitch black eyes. Her mouth moved, and I couldn’t help but stare at her crazily sharp pointed teeth.
“You will not touch me. You will not question me. You will play the Game by my rules. Get it? Got it? Good.” ‘She’ said. We all covered our ear as her voice sounded like nails against a chalkboard; creepily high pitched and it almost hurt to hear.
She stepped forward, making all of us cower in fear, and she quickly bent down and seemed to kiss James. He started shuddering again, and we all watched as he got paler and she got...bigger.
She stopped ‘kissing’ him and turned to smile at us. “That was nice. You disobey me? You get worse than this. He’ll survive, don’t worry. I can’t do with one of my players leaving before their turn,” ‘she’ said, mock pouting, her fangs dripping with something that looked mysteriously black and oily.
She grinned at us, pointy teeth and all, before suddenly collapsing into a heap on the floor.
