"Only Rumors"?

Chapter 17-The Black Kiss

How was it that someone could be so perfect?

It should be illegal.

I grinned up at Carter and he did the same back.

“Why are you so amazing?” I asked, and he just laughed.

“I dunno, why am I?” He asked, and I laughed, though it wasn’t funny in the least bit.

I poked his nose and we both laughed. So far, we had spent practically the whole day together, just talking and laughing. I was practically drooling in anticipation for him to kiss me. Those lips were just so perfect…

He grabbed onto my hand and I had to resist from squealing. My hands fit perfectly inside his!

“Here, I got you something.” He said, pulling a box of chocolates from behind him. I gasped.

“How’d you get that!?” I asked in shock, happiness overtaking me. At the back of my mind, I felt a distinct nagging, but I ignored it. I didn’t have to know where he got it from. It wasn’t important.

“It’s a surprise,” he said, winking and grinning at me with an evil gleam in his eye. Evil? Whoops! My mistake; I meant lovey-dovey. Of course.

I quickly grabbed the box of chocolates and ripped open the heart shaped top. “Ooh! Dark chocolate, my favorites,” I exclaimed. He just smiled at me, waiting for me to eat one.

I grabbed the one in the middle, and began to eat it. “Mm-” I started to state my appreciation, when I heard my name be called.

I put the chocolate down, much to Carter’s annoyance, and turned around. “Yes James?” I asked.

James looked worried, and glanced behind me to Carter. He cleared his throat. Why was he so nervous? “Can I...can I talk to you for a moment?” He asked.

I frowned, and turned to look at Carter who shook his head. “Er, I’m a bit busy at the moment, James.” I said. I really didn’t want to leave Carter. He was so amazing, I don’t think I could leave him for even a moment.

James frowns. Is he jealous? I would be too. I mean, I bet he’s wishing he had someone as amazing as Carter. I mean, goodness! Carter is everything I could ever want in a guy.

“By that, I mean, ‘Serenity, you really need to step away from Carter right now’.” He said. I frowned, now annoyed. I started to feel tired, already bored of this conversation.

“Why would I do that?” I asked.

James looked even more annoyed than I did. “Serenity, are you seriously not wondering where he got a box of chocolates from? You’ve been acting weird all day. Considering our current situation, nothing is coincidental. There’s something going on here.”

“I’m not acting weird!” I protested, but my mind was starting to get fuzzy. I was so tired...

“Please. From what I’ve seen, you are not the ‘cutesy-couple’ type. You kind of like Carter before, but now it’s just ridiculous. You’ve seemed to forgotten the fact that we are on an abandoned train with a creepy, ugly demon thing trying to kill us all and take our souls.”

As soon as he said that, my mind slowly started to process it. I never really was one for cute relationships…

“How dare you talk about Lady Isabella like that,” Carter growled, and I slowly turned as the gears slowly clicked in my head...Lady Isabella? What was going on?

James eyes widened as he realized what was going on a second before I did. As it all clicked; the fact that Carter was, for some reason, a pawn of the demon, I tried to lunge for James. The ‘love’ he had somehow influenced me into was gone. He must’ve done something to me. Carter was a nice guy (well, he used to be), but I realized something.

The next few seconds happened in a blur, as I thought about it. I didn’t even notice as Carter quickly grabbed my arm and pulled me back into him. I didn’t notice as he kissed me, and as my body immediately responded in a negative way. I didn’t notice as I suddenly was unable to move and I fell to the floor.

Why? Because I realized that, all this time on the train, I had actually loved James.

How had I not realized that?

“You dimwitted twit! How could you betray us like that!?” James shouted, bending over me.

Carter just smiled creepily. Why had I ever thought he was attractive? How was it that one simple thought changed your whole perspective?

I love James.

Wow.

“You will soon realize how utterly divine Lady Isabella is. Then you will understand.” Carter said in a weird, adoring tone.

“Your crazy.” James muttered, looking over me with concern. “Her lips are turning black. That’s not normal.” Several other people were now crouched down beside me.

“Serenity!?” I heard Pepper scream as she ran over. I was only able to stare blankly at the ceiling as she crouched beside me. “What did you do!?” She screamed at Carter.

Carter just grinned that creepy smile again. She quickly got up and punched him in the face. I almost winced, if I could. I knew her right hook was pretty nasty.

Carter’s head whipped to the side and he spit out blood, but he just grinned again, only blood was now staining his once perfectly white teeth. “You all shall soon see Lady Isabella’s true angelic appearance. Then you will know.”

“You’re insane.” Pepper spit out before she knelt next to me again.

My lips started to feel numb, then slowly the rest of my body did also. Slowly but surely, I started to feel pain. It was dull at first, but it slowly grew bigger and bigger.

I screamed, finding the ability to move my mouth. My back arched while everybody looked on in shock. I squeezed my eyes shut as the fiery pain overwhelmed me. I continued to scream, much to Carter’s pleasure and everyone else’s despair.

Then it all faded to black.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted in like, er, forever xD But I've been kind of lacking motivation lately:/ This story isn't doing very well and it's kind of depressing. But I've been having this story in mind for a long time now, so I don't really wanna give up on it(: I hope to finish it, though how far away that is I'm not sure. But yeah...please vote and comment, it really means a lot<3 Sorry this chapter is short. I'm kinda busy today:/
