Chapter 13: Vote

Kat's POV

Throughout the trip home, everyone was pretty quiet. But, at least Jasper sat next to me and held me close. I was afraid he wouldn't want to be near me after what he just saw. But, I can feel the questions stirring in his mind. I looked over and saw Dax whispering to Alice, but not about what happened. He was assuring her that as soon as they reached home, he can explain it to her and the Cullens. All of us. Bella was too quiet herself, but she never really left Edward's arms since we left Volterra. I'm not even sure if she's all there right now. It's almost like she's back to being a zombie.

I sigh softly and look over to Jasper who was resting against the seat, "Jasper?" I speak softly.

He turns his head to look at me, "Hmm?" He sighs.

I swallow a hard lump in my throat, "I'm sorry." I whisper.

He looks down at me with his soft golden eyes staring at me, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I couldn't. Mother placed a restraint on us. No matter how badly I wanted to tell you, I was forbidden to. When you told me your secret, I wanted to tell you mine. I'm sorry, Jasper."

Jasper was quiet for a while, thinking I guess. It was most terrifying time of my life, since I died. Finally, he cups my cheek with his cold hand and gently pulls me closer to kiss my lips. I was worried at first. I couldn't help but think, 'Will this be the last time I'll be able to kiss him?'. I didn't know what to think, but to fall into his kiss and kiss him back with every bit of love and passion I had for Jasper Hale.

When the kiss finally broke and he pulls away, but doesn't let me go, he finally spoke.

"As much as I am disappointed, but I understand. I just wish you were allowed to tell me from the start, I would have understood. Nothing can make me love you any less." He whispers.

I sigh in relief and drop my head against his shoulder as my body basically goes limp from the fear of losing him again. He chuckles softly and wraps his arms around me, pulling me closer against him.

"I want to know everything. Will you tell me?" He asks.

I nod frantically against his shoulder, "Yes. But, not here. And we want to tell your family, too. Once we get home, and we're all together, we will tell you everything you want to know."

He sighs softly, "Ok, my love."

Dax's POV

"Daxy?" Alice speaks softly next to me, snapping me out of my worried thoughts.

"Hmm?"

"Thank you." She says.

I scrunch my brows in confusion, "Why are you thanking me?"

She simply smiles at me, "For protecting me. I've been protecting you since we started dating, now, you protected me. From the Volturi, of all."

I smirk and trail my eyes down to her neck, stroking her skin against my fingers, feeling her shiver against my touch, "I would never let anyone harm you like that. Seeing that bastard touch you like that." I growl softly and feel my eyes glow eerily blue.

She gasps softly at the sight and, at first, I thought I scared her. But, she looks at me as if she was in awe. She reaches up and strokes my face, looking into my eyes.

"Wow. I've always loved your blue eyes, but seeing them like this. They're beautiful." She says softly.

I couldn't help but blush and feel my eyes dim back to it's original color, "When my emotions get the best of me, my eyes glow. Our powers come from our emotions." I explain.
