Their Inner Thoughts

For those of you who've read my story "The Academy", I think you'll get the context for each poem ;)

WARNING! There may be spoilers below!

If it wasn't for the rules I'm bound to,
I would break them all, just for you.
When I see you smile,
My world freezes, and I can only look at you;
So if you're happy, don't forget to smile, okay?

Can I break the rules I was born to follow?
Can I leave my darkness behind?
Can I do it, just for you?

I want you to be safe and happy;
My darkness cannot, should not, taint you.
I know you're strong,
But there are some things I need to protect you from.

I will always cherish you,
And I want to say thank you,
Because you accepted the darkness within me,
And didn't care if it would hurt you.
You stayed, even when I tried to push you away;
And for that, I'm grateful.

Thank you.
You mean the world to me,
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I wasn't exactly alone before I met you,
But your company was a nice change
From the people I was used to.

You saw me for me, not my title.
I know you think I'm an idiot
And a lovesick fool,
But I think we can agree on one thing:
I'm your lovesick fool.

I know you didn't want the formalities,
And for that, I am sorry.
But that was the only way I could make sure I didn't lose you.
If this arrangement hadn't worked out,
I would have been with someone else.
That's why...
I hope you understand.

The fountain will remember the times
We laughed and played together.
I hope I've done enough
To make sure you weren't alone.

You must have been so scared
When you first came here.
I don't blame you.
I felt scared too,
When the person I looked up to
Left me.

But we were there for each other,
And I suppose that worked out, didn't it?

We're a team, you and me.

This lovesick fool is always here for you.

Things don't always work out
The way we wanted them to.
We know that from experience, don't we?

Our scars tell the story.

Fires and knives don't hurt

As much as our own demons do.

The nightmares and the old fears
Return when we don't expect them to,
When we don't want them to.

Still, there's always tomorrow morning,

When I wake up in your arms,
And you wake up in mine.

Let's go outside and watch the sun rise over the hills.

It reminds me of a time when we will be safe.

Someday...
