Connor stared at his reflection in the mirror. He did not smile. Instead, he gave himself a look of disappointment. He was going to the party when he had agreed to no parties until his assignments were done. It had not been five hours since school was out. Connor felt that he should of spent that spare time working on the booklet tasks, but he lacked motivation. He lacked motivation for everything these days.

His bright eyes that were concealed with remorse glanced at the booklet on his bed, screaming at him to be done. He let out a heavy sigh before reaching over the top of his dark wooded dresser and grabbing his body spray. He covered himself in the scent before tossing it back where he got it from. As the metal of the spray hit the wood, it let out a large bang throughout the room as if someone had shot a gun.

There was a knock on his door. Connor felt irritation grow within him.

"Go away." He said.

The door opened anyway, causing the irritation inside of Connor to turn into a flame. His mom, just as he had expected, poked her head through the door.

"I heard a noise. Is everything okay?" She asked, using the tone of voice that Connor recognised as 'I know you're mad at me'.

"Yeah. Now get out." Connor said as he ran his fingers through his dark hair.

His mom eyed Connor, noticing that he had put on a fresh shirt.

"Where... Where are you going?" She asked warily, still only having her head sticking inside the room.

"Out." He replied simply, trying to resist the urge of shoving her away.

"But you have homework to do..."

"Okay, then just send me away why don't you?!" He snapped, grabbing his phone hastily from his bed and stomping towards her. His mom immediately moved away from the door to let her son through.

"Connor, for the millionth time- it's just for your own good. I knew I wouldn't have to send you away because I know you'll make me proud." She said while she followed behind him as he walked down the hallway.

Connor rolled his eyes. "Whatever."

His baby sister, Josie, who sat on the grey carpet with her toys, began to wail. His mom rushed over to her, picking her up from the ground and bouncing her on her hip while cooing to her words of comfort. Connor took this as an opportunity to get out before his mom could question him any longer.

As he reached for the front doorknob, his mom's voice caused him to stop. "Wait!" She scurried towards him, holding out Josie. "Can you please hold her while I get her bottle ready?"

Connor looked at the time and realized that Keith would be there at any moment. But his mom's eyes were pleading, and Connor wasn't completely heartless. His sister was the only person in his family that he loved.

He took her from his mom's hands, and her tiny chubby fingers immediately reached over to the neckline of his shirt. She tugged on it and Connor heard the fabric stretch but it was not noticeable.

As he stared into his little sister's big grey eyes he realized that she would still be living in his hell house while Connor would be out of there as soon as he had the chance He was already eighteen years old, but he was broke. "Good luck." He whispered to her, and kissed the top of her baby head filled with barely any blonde hair.

His phone buzzed in his hand, indicating that he had received a message. He lifted it to see who it was, his lips still against Josie's head. Of course it was Keith.

"I have to go." Connor yelled so that his mom would hear him from the kitchen.

"Oh, Connor please just give me a few more minutes-"
