Connor was everlastingly grateful that he was not sent to the principles office that morning. It seemed to be the only thing that Connor didn't hate Mr Cauci for, even though he still did hate him.
"Connor! Are you listening?" Mia snapped her fingers in front of Connor's face, breaking him away from his thoughts.
"Hm? What?" Connor shook his head slightly and then turned to Mia, resting his chin on the back of his hand.
"I said that Peter wants to get closer." Mia bit her bottom lip and then ever-so-slightly turned her head to look at her love interest. Peter sat with his sporty friends on their own table. They were all being loud, with one of them cracking a joke causing them to roar with laughter.
Connor rolled his eyes at their obnoxiousness.
"Wow, Mia. That's great. I'm really happy for you." Connor's tone of voice made Mia realize he was not interested in what she had to say.
"What's up with you? Are you mad about Friday?" Keith interfered. Connor grabbed a fry from his tray.
"No." He said as he placed it in his mouth.
"Okay... Well, tomorrow they're having another party. This time it's at Rich's house. You up for it?"
"Do I have an option?" Connor asked as he narrowed his eyes at Keith.
"Okay. I know you're pissed off at me for Friday. I said I was sorry, dude."
Connor ignored him and turned his attention to the girl walking with her tray in her hands. She stopped in the middle of the cafeteria, looking lost as she searched for somewhere to sit. Eventually, she wandered over to a group of nerds who let her sit at the end of their table. She looked extremely out of place as everyone on that table except for her began to engage in their own conversation.
"Who is she?" Connor found himself asking. Ever since he had seen her cough up blood, he had been curious about her.
Mia and Keith made it obvious they were looking at her when they turned their heads towards her direction. Connor rubbed his temple and mutters a swear word, realising that she would notice them.
"Oh. That's Audrey. Don't know her last name and don't care to be honest. She's in my Chemistry class. Turns out she missed school for seven months or something."
"Oh." Connor replied. "That's why I haven't seen her around before."
"Yeah. She's kind of a loner." Mia turned her body to face the front again.
"Kinda hot as well." Keith said as he continued staring. The girl noticed him and shifted uncomfortably in her seat, gazing upon her barely touched food. Mia knocked Keith's arm, causing him to exclaim in pain and turn back around as well.
"You're so annoying. You know that?" Mia said as she stared at Keith with disapproval.
"Hey Connor, we should swap seats so I can stare at her all lunchtime." Keith said as he nudged Connor's elbow.
"Fuck off." Connor replied as he shoved Keith away. He pushed a little too hard and Keith collapsed backwards off the bench seat. Everybody in the cafeteria directed their attention to Keith who immediately for up again, pulling himself back to sit at the table again.
The girl who Connor knew was named Audrey now, slightly smiled and placed the back of her hand to her lips to hide it.
"What was that for?" Keith asked irritated as he adjusted his white shirt to sit properly again.
"For being a dickhead." Connor said.
"What do you have next, Connor?" Mia asked.
"English. Tinkerbell's giving me my assignment." Connor replied, remembering that it was a group one so he would get whoever he was with to do all the work.
