"You really didn't have to do this." Audrey said as she turned to look at Connor in the driver's seat.
"Don't worry about it. I didn't even want to go to that party." He replied. It wasn't a lie, it was true. Connor had no interest in going and the only reason he was, was because he didn't want to soil his reputation of being a party animal.
"I know you're just doing this because you feel sorry for me." Audrey looked down at her lap.
Connor glanced at her for a second before averting his eyes to the road ahead.
"I mean, I do feel bad for how I treated you, but I still wouldn't do this if I didn't want to."
"What are we doing exactly?"
"Well, first off we're going to your house so that you can change, and then we're heading to the beach." Connor looked at the rear view mirror to make sure that the camera was still there. Sure enough, it was still sitting where Connor had put it.
"The beach? I can't go to the beach!" Audrey panicked slightly, her hand touching her hair.
Connor reached over into the glove box pulled out a black Nike hat. He dropped it on her lap and Audrey smiled.
"Yes you can."
"Okay, fine. But what's the point in going to the beach?" She placed the hat over her head, and Connor thought she looked adorable in it. She also looked like a normal girl with it covering her bald spots.
"Well, the beach's beautiful, isn't it? So hopefully we'll get some filming done there."
Connor pulled up into a street that Audrey had claimed was where her house was. He slowed down as he drove through it, looking at all the houses. It seemed to be a good neighbourhood, with every house looking brand new.
"Which one is it?" Connor asked.
"The one just up there with the white mailbox." She pointed forward and Connor saw the mailbox. He pulled up beside it before turning off the engine.
"Okay, I'll be waiting here." Connor said as he waited to Audrey to get out of the car.
"Are you sure you don't want to come in? I might take a while anyway, and my mom can give you something to eat."
Connor contemplated it for a few seconds. He wasn't great with parents, let alone his own. But for the sake of Audrey feeling more comfortable knowing that Connor was not waiting in the stuffy car, he decided to go with it.
They both walked up the driveway towards the dark lead cement house with a lot of windows. As she fumbled with her keys, Connor suddenly felt nervous even though he rarely ever did. For some reason, he felt that it was his duty to impress her parents, even though he had no reason to other than feeling sorry that their daughter was sick.
"My dad's not home, so it's just my mom." She told him before turning the key and opening the door with her shoulder.
Connor felt a bit more relieved until he stepped into the clean, modern looking home. The floor was dark wood and the walls were white. The whole area was spacious and Connor felt himself feeling insecure about his own home which wasn't as big nor appealing as this.
"Mom?" Audrey called out and within five seconds, a woman who almost looked identical to Audrey stepped out from behind the kitchen wall.
"Hey, how was your day-" she paused when she saw Connor, an unreadable expression on her face. Connor mustered a friendly smile and she returned it.
"Who's this?" She asked, walking towards them. She had the same dark hair as Audrey, except hers was pulled back into a messy ponytail, with two long fringes framing both sides of her face. She had fairer skin with a few wrinkles in the outer corners of her eyes and around her lips. Nevertheless, she looked attractive for her age, and Connor could only imagine what Keith would think.
