CHAPTER 1:
How It All Began...
Journal Entry # 22: The "HIVE" incident: Subject: "How did it all begin?"
Written By Jason McLane/Silicon.
Alone.
Without friends, without family, without anyone.
Being Alone from the things that make ones life worthwhile.
It's always been what I've been afraid off, that and fire.
It's been that way since my parents died in the car crash and I was the only survivor.
People had said it was a miracle that I had lived through that when I should have been killed on impact, but looking back at it now, it might have had something to do with me being a dormant Metahuman...and not knowing it yet.
What was a Metahuman?
A human with a gene that had the potential to give its host upon activation a wide variety of strange abilities and powers...I was one of the many who's genes were still dormant at the time, but even dormant M-Gene bearers had been found to have increased stamina, endurance and durability present even before full activation of their individual M-Gene's ever occurred according to M-Leader's files on Metahumans.
So maybe my pre-mutagenesis physiology was the real reason I had survived and not by some "miracle".
It was devastating losing my mother and Father.
I kept on wondering, "Why did I survive?!" and "how could this have happened?" for a long time, blaming myself for their deaths before realising it wasn't my fault, but an irresponsible driver trying to catch the red light who was the true one at fault.
But that didn't really make things any better.
I don't think anything really could have made me feel better at the time, I was an orphan.
The swift side sweeping death of your parents was not something you could forget and get over and move on as easily as people thought.
I felt alone for quite a while before the State of Nevada put me in the McLane orphanage, then I had a way to recover from my loss by eventually finding what amounted to a secondary family with the kids of the Orphanage.
Sarah McLane could never replace my mother, but she did her best...and that's all that mattered to me, until she could find me some parents of my own.
I made a friend there as well, Alex Rivers.
As happy as I was there, it wasn't meant to last forever.
I figured I'd be taken in by another family, or Sarah would adopt me herself.
Either way this home had been temporary from day one.
Nothing good lasts forever.
But I had never figured it would have ended the way it did.
