We all make fun and are annoyed by stereotypes. When confronted by something typical and annoying, we just comment "So stereotypical".
But we also try to achieve normality. We want to blend, to go with the flow, to fit in.
This seems contradictory to me.
Isn't a stereotype something so normal that is deemed 'typical'? Isn't calling something stereotypical also saying that it has achieved normality?
People don't want to be stereotypical, but people want to be normal.
I understand stereotypical tends to have a negative connotation, but this struck me as interesting.
I am completely guilty of this. I despise stereotypes, especially in movies and books. The stereotypical nerd, the stereotypical jock, the stereotypical popular girl, and so on.
In real life, I want to fit in.
But I hate being called stereotypical.
