You knocked on the door to Lestrade's office.
"It's open!" he called.
You slowly opened the door to find Greg sitting behind his desk with his legs on top of it. In his hands he held a file of papers.
"Ah, Detective Inspector Watson. Just the person I wanted to see." he said.
"What is it you need me to do?" you asked.
"We picked up a druggie." he said as he rose from his seat and flipped through the file. "Sherlock Holmes." he said and handed you the pile of papers.
"Holmes? Like Mycroft?" you asked.
He nodded. You didn't really know Mycroft very well, but you were one of the few people that he really trusted.
"His younger brother. Mycroft asked specifically for you. Said his brother needs some special care." he said with soft, fatherly compassion in his voice.
"I'll see what I can do." you said with a smile and went to visit your patient.
You opened the door to the cell. Straight ahead, a man with very shaggy and curly black hair dressed in shabby clothing sat on the cot, slumped against the wall.
"Mr. Holmes?" you called quietly to him. He didn't move. You decided to proceed. "Mycroft asked me to help you." you explained.
Sherlock looked up at you. He looked you over from head to toe, then returned to his original position.
"Mycroft never trusts anyone." Sherlock stated.
"Well, I'm privileged to be one of the few." you said as you sat on the other side of the bench.
He looked over at you. "You really think it's a privilege?" he said with a tone of mock in his voice.
You laughed. "To tell you the truth, I don't." you replied with a smile.
Sherlock smirked.
"How are you feeling?" you asked.
He turned and looked you right in the eye. "I'm fine." he answered. But his eyes said otherwise.
"I don't think so." you replied.
"How can you tell?" he asked.
"You looked me dead in the eye to try to convince me that you were sincere about your answer but expressed almost no emotion on your face. And I can see in your eyes that you are far from okay. My late husband used to have the same look in his eye every day when I would ask him if he was alright."
He looked at you with something that resembled sorrow written on his face. "I'm sorry." he said under his breath.
You shrugged. "Comes with being a detective inspector. You learn to know when people are lying."
"But why would you help me?" he asked.
"Because I saw what happened to my husband. I don't want that to happen to anyone else. Not even you, Mr. Holmes." you replied.
"Please, it's just Sherlock. Mr. Holmes is my brother." he said.
"That's true. I wouldn't want to get you two confused. I'm y/n Watson."
"It's lovely to meet you Miss Watson." he said.
You looked at him disapprovingly.
"Sorry. Y/n." he apologized.
