Eleven years later

Draven desperately got down on his hands and knees, searching for somewhere, anywhere, that she could be hiding. From somewhere behind him, he heard Eresia shriek, but he kept his focus on the task at hand. Where could she be?

The door to the apartment clicked open, and he watched Dan enter the room and a black shadow attempt to streak past him.

"DAN! Down!" Draven yelled. It was commendable that Dan could actually tell what he meant. Draven watched with relief as Eresia's guardian bent down and scooped the pitch black Labrador puppy into his arms.

"Where do you think you're going, Spade?" He asked, looking the puppy in the eye. She whimpered. Dan looked beyond Draven, and looked surprised. Draven, pushing off the floor with his hands, a move which left him on his knees, turned back, seeing Eresia on her knees scrubbing a doormat with a wet cloth.

"What are you doing?" Dan asked.

"Spade peed here. I'm cleaning it up." She said.

Dan frowned and tapped the puppy on the nose. "Bad dog."

Then looking up at Eresia, he said, "Etios wants to see you Eresia. Something about a new guy." Eresia smiled and jumped up, but then looked down at where the dog had peed.

"This needs to be put in the washing machine..." She said, doubt filling her voice. Sighing, Draven got up and reached for the mat. She had to go, and Dan was her guardian, so he would probably go with-

"I'll clean that up. Draven, you go with her." Dan said. Draven's head snapped back to look at him. Although Draven was in training to be Eresia's guardian, he had never been allowed to accompany her outside alone before. Heck, it had taken Dan eight years to trust him and his skills enough to leave him and Eresia at home alone. Eresia smiled, then ran to her room to wash her hands and change her clothes.

"This is a test Draven. Eresia gets so much as a scratch, you get kicked back to basic training. Get it?" Dan barked the instant Eresia was out of earshot, glaring at the younger boy.

Draven nodded eagerly. "Yes sir!"

"'Yes sir', what?" Eresia asked, walking out of her room.

"Nothing." Draven said, scanning Eresia's eyes. After all these years, he'd understood how to read her.

Eresia's eyes were like mood rings. The background color changed according to her most dominant emotion, the specks in her eyes were the other emotions she was feeling at the time. The size of the specks corresponded to how much of the emotion she was feeling at the time. He knew that the lilac color of her eyes right now meant that she was intrigued, and the largest yellow speck was curiosity. He couldn't help but smile. She couldn't really hide anything. All you needed to do was look into her eyes and everything was revealed.

Eresia grabbed her best friend's arm and proceeded to drag him out of the apartment. They lived on the tenth floor, so he pushed the down button to call the elevator. Eresia peered up at him, being half a head shorter, then said, "Don't worry, I'll be good today. I won't run off or put myself in danger like I usually do."

"Don't you trust me to keep the normal you safe?" he teased.

"Oh, I do. But I also don't want you to get kicked back to basic training." She said, smiling cheekily.

He smiled sheepishly at her. "You heard that?"

"Nope," she said making the word pop. "But I thought it would be something like that."

"Brat." He said, ruffling her hair.

"Hey, you're only a year older than me! Cut that out!" she snapped at him. He grinned and the elevator door dinged open.

The house was a normal house in a normal neighborhood. It didn't look as though there was anything out of the ordinary. It was to the point that Draven almost believed that they were at the wrong house. But just when he was about to pull out, Eresia said, "This is the right place." Her voice was rather strange, dreamy, as though she were in a trance. Her body was swaying slightly, and her eyes had become glazed. But she kept her promise and didn't run into the house, though her hands twitched continuously. No one knew why Eresia felt the need to meet with a Seer the instant she sensed them, but Draven was grateful for it. After all, that was how she found him.

Doing a quick check, Draven deemed it safe to exit the car, though he kept a vigilant watch for threats. The instant he opened the car door, Eresia ran to the front door and rang the doorbell, while Draven, expecting this, covered her. She rocked on the balls of her feet while waiting for the door to open, and the moment it did, her body drained of all tension. Draven knew that meant that the person in front of them was the one they were looking for.

He studied her (discreetly, of course). She was two or three years older than him, and looked like a college senior. She had long honey blond hair and sparkling green eyes, yet her facial features were distinctly Asian.

"You- You don't have..." she gasped.

"We don't have what? Demons on our shoulders?" Eresia asked with a smile on her face. The lady looked shocked, barely managing a nod.

Eresia let out a radiant smile. "My name is Eresia. What's yours?"

"R-Rayn Aruka."

"Well, Rayn, we would like to talk to you. Would you please come with us?"

"O-okay."

Draven looked at Eresia, once again envying her ability to manipulate emotions. When they had first met, she could only force the emotion which she was feeling at the time on people. But now, she could do it with any emotion. She could also see the emotions of others as an aura of color around them. Just as she couldn't hide her emotions from anyone, no one could hide their feelings from her. These two abilities were why she was so highly valued and guarded so carefully. They were also why Eresia almost always had to go on these recruitment missions. No one could be suspicious of her, not unless she wanted them to. Or unless they were like him, now that he was older.

Draven waited for Eresia and Rayn to sit, then pulled out of the driveway and drove away from Rayn's house, heading towards the main house. Eresia kept up a stream of constant chatter the entire way, with Rayn laughing and responding. The two were practically best friends by the time that they pulled up to their location.

The main house was a mansion. There was a small path leading off the main road, and there was a gate about five minutes down the path. It was opened immediately when the guards saw that Draven and Eresia were inside. Then it was another fifteen minute drive on a path that snaked through a forest before they saw the residence. It was stone, with matching Greek columns bracketing the doorway and a tiled roof. Rayn just stared for a few moments before Eresia gently tugged on her hand.

"Come on, everything will be explained inside."
