Rayn was in no state to drive, so Draven drove her car, with Rayn and Eresia sitting in the backseat.

Dan had hauled Brand into the backseat of his own car and took off. He was still Fused, and his massive build took up the entire backseat. They had had to fold him into an undoubtedly uncomfortable position just to get him to fit. Then a conversation about whether or not someone should sit in the passenger seat happened, during which it was decided Rayn would be of no use up front, Draven needed to drive Rayn's car, and Eresia would just be scared out of her mind if Brand woke back up, and therefore of no help. In fact, she would be a liability, because Dan would have to worry about protecting her in addition to holding off the minotaur.

Originally, the plan was to put Rayn into training immediately, but she was inconsolable for the next few days.

"Well, it is only to be expected. Rather, we were the ones who presumed too much in simply deciding that she would be ready to enter training immediately." Etios sighed, when Dan brought the subject up.

"But, still, we're on a deadline. They're already rather far ahead us, knowing where the Gate is." Dan muttered, pacing. He had been incredibly worried ever since they had found out what the Gate and Key were.

Just because Rayn was so depressed didn't mean that her demon would be. The relatively smaller knowledge spirit (as compared to Timburlentis, Sirena, and Brand), who had introduced himself as Creej, had told them everything they needed to know in short, succinct and easy-to-understand sentences.

"The Gate is quite simply what we call the place through which Hell and Earth are connected. The Key can open or close the Gate, as the name implies. Currently, the Gate is open just wide enough that souls can pass through, but nothing else. But if it is opened wider... I do believe living being can pass through it as well. Though the word living is relative...." And then he began to ramble on that demons didn't truly die, but when receiving a fatal wound, their souls went to Earth, and when they returned to Hell they returned to the exact same body. The others mostly just tuned him out, though, too lost in their thoughts and worries to pay him any attention.

"You guys should focus on both finding the Key, or getting the location of the Gate out of Brand. I'll help with the latter part later but for now, I'll go talk to her." Eresia said, picking up Spade and straightening. The others watched as the girl walked away.

"I do believe we have been ordered to do something." Etios said, a wry smile on his face.

"Why, yes, yes we have. That girl will probably take over your position one day, Tios." Dan replied.

"I don't mind. Eresia is the best choice for the job."

Rayn's room in the Main House was dark. The curtains were drawn and the lights were off. The only illumination came when Eresia opened and closed the door and light from the hallway filtered in. Eresia shut the door behind her though, marveling at how completely dark the room was made. This level of darkness required some work behind it. The only noises were the synchronized ticking of multiple clocks, someone quietly sobbing, and Eresia's own breathing.

"This room would be a pretty successful haunted house." Eresia commented in an off-hand tone.

"Go away." Rayn sniffled.

"Why?" Eresia asked. She could tell where the older girl was by the colors. Her deep blue with dashes of red aura was clearly visible. Auras were always clear to Eresia, no matter the light quality. She didn't have night vision, but she could easily locate a person in a pitch-black environment.
