Aurora jumped off Draco as soon as they landed, and began to hyperventilate. Paul had made a direct threat on her life, and the life of all those she cared about unless she had done what he wanted. She flinched away from everything, and almost broke down when a hand was laid on her shoulder. A male chuckle made her almost throw up, since she had realized who it belonged to.

“Go away, Paul. You have ruined my life. How do you live with yourself after causing so much pain and death?!” Aurora screamed the last bit at him.

He let out a sigh and tried to hug her.

“Get. Your. Hands. Off. Me!” She said through gritted teeth.

He lifted his hands up into surrendering position, before backing away from his crush with a smile playing on his lips.

“You think death is funny, hey?! All you care about is winning, you don’t even realise what some people have lost!” Aurora screamed until her throat hurt, and Paul gave her a slight glare.

“I saved you, didn’t I? I’ve been raised to care about nothing else. Try reversing the situations, imagine the fire king snapping at your heels, telling you to win a war where the odds are against you, it isn’t easy!” Paul was almost yelling at the end bit, and Aurora felt she had won a small victory.

“It doesn’t give you the right to take thousands of lives just to save your one.”

“You don’t know-”

“No, and I don’t want to. Now, where do I sleep?”

Paul led Aurora to a chamber that would be hers for the entire war. Once she had looked around, she went over to the bed and lay face down.

“Go away, Paul!” Aurora screamed into the pillow, her voice muffled by the pillow and hoarse from all the yelling she had done.

Paul walked out, slightly confused by her reaction. He had tried to be nice, but he needed her here, and he needed the aether dragon. Draco would do anything for his rider, so the simple solution was to kidnap her. Thinking about it, he realised how much pain she must be in, and felt the first touches of guilt in his life.

“Grow up, Paul. It is for the good of everyone that she is here, at least you can keep an eye on her.” Blaze spoke through the mind link, and put Paul at rest from the whirlwind of emotions he was feeling.

“Come on, let’s go and win a war.” Paul said out loud, his old ambition coming back.

At Aether Academy, or what used to be Aether Academy, the remaining students were gathered on a pile of rubble, once called the great hall. Jessie was helping out with any injured students who could be saved, and John was with the other dragons, digging through the remnants of the once great building, trying to find any students or dragons that got buried accidentally. Once they were sure that the fire dragons and riders had left for good, the headmaster decided to make a plan. If the students couldn’t learn normal lessons, they would have to learn a whole new skill, they needed to learn to fight.

“Students at my school, today we witnessed a horrible event, and many innocent lives were lost due to the workings of Paul and Blaze. I have decided that from now on this war doesn’t just involve fire and water, but it involves all of us, and fire is to blame. We will not join water though, we will fight independently, and become equally as strong as our opposition, let the real fight begin!” The headmaster finished his speech, and all the other students began murmuring to each other.

“Sir, none of us know how to fight properly.” One student raised the issue that had been on everyone’s mind.

“Then I shall teach you, just like you previously learnt magic, you will now learn battle skills.”

And the training of the aether academy students officially began.
