Chapter 4

A few days later...

Riker POV

So Ava's family had gone home, but it turns out that we live close by. We were heading home today, so I was super excited. It'll be easier to get together with Ava. And we'd made plans for her to come to my house later today after we'd gotten back home.

We were currently in the car. Dad made us all get up early. Everyone was grumpy.

Ross was complaining about needing to pee, Rocky and Ryland were complaining about being hungry, Rydel was asleep with her head on my shoulder. And I was perfectly happy because in a few hours, I get to see Ava.

Later...

Riker POV

We'd gotten home, and I took a quick shower. My family knew Ava was coming over.

I heard the doorbell ring, and I bolted down the stairs. I opened the door to find Ava.

"Hi!" I said, smiling widely.

"Hey, Riker."

"Come in. We can go upstairs, and you can teach me more things."

I led her up to my bedroom. Today we were working on my look. Her father liked people who looked neat and tidy, so that's what we were shooting for.

"Ok, so when you meet my dad eventually, he's going to want to shake your hand. And with my past boyfriends, he judges the handshake. You have to have a firm grip, but not firm enough to make it hurt. He will totally judge you on everything. So you need to appear confident in everything you do."

"Ok."

"So let's work on your look."

I was currently in sweatpants so I could easily change.

"First we'll do clothes, and then we'll see what we can do with your hair."

"I like my hair though..."

"Yeah, well my dad won't."

"Ok..."

Later...

Riker POV

Ava had raided my closet, and I was currently in black skinny jeans, a blue button up shirt, and a black tie. I had on my converse. And Ava was satisfied with that. And I was glad because this is what I would wear for R5 concerts, except maybe a different pair of jeans. I like jeans with rips in them, but obviously it's not perfect and proper and all that...

We went to the bathroom, and Ava started messing with my hair. Rydel had given me hairspray, so I was letting Ava use that if she needed it.

She was using a comb now, and she made my hair sort of wet with a little water. She combed it backwards so my bangs weren't over my eyes anymore. And then she sprayed hairspray all over it. It actually looked really good. I looked like I came from some sort of rich family or something.

"Ok, do you wear glasses?"

"Yes."

"You should wear your glasses when you meet my dad. He likes boys with glasses because he says it makes them look sophisticated."

I laughed.

"What?"

"I think they make me look like a dork, but ok."

I took out my contacts, and put on my glasses.

"How's that?" I asked.

"I like it. You look really handsome."

I blushed a little.

"Thanks."

"Should we see what your family thinks of your new look?"

"I guess... They're going to think I look weird."

We went downstairs. Half of my family was in the living room. We walked in. Ross immediately started laughing at me.

"What!? I look good!" I said, being defensive.

Mom walked in.

"Oh, Riker. You look nice, honey."

"Thanks, mom."

"Riker, you look really good," Rydel said, getting up, and walking over to me.

She started pulling at my clothes, and touching my hair a little, looking at my new look.

"I like it," Rydel said, circling me now.

"Ok, you've seen me! Stop looking!" I said, blushing from everyone staring at me.

We went back upstairs to my bedroom.

"Does it look good or bad? Be honest," I said, still blushing a bit.

"Riker, it looks good. Your mom and your sister both said so."

"Ok. Just making sure."

"You look good. I promise. I wouldn't make you look bad," Ava said, laughing a little bit.

"Ok. So uh... For dinner, we're having pizza so you can try it."

"Alright."

I sat down on my bed.

"By the way, sorry for my slightly messy room. We just got home today, so I didn't really have any time to clean it," I said, looking down.

"It's fine, Riker. Really, it is. Even though I come from a family that seems to care about all this stuff, I don't. I mean, if I was like my father, I would never have given you my number. All the rules and stuff are annoying. It's nice to have someone who comes from a family that's so laid back about everything. I think you're the first friend I've made on my own. My dad always tries to pick my friends based on how rich and smart their families are."

"Yeah, well I wanted to talk to you about something."

"What?"

"So uh... Are we like... considered boyfriend and girlfriend yet? Or just friends?"

"We can be boyfriend and girlfriend. You're just not exactly approved by my father yet."

"Ok, awesome. Because I really like you."

"Aw, I really like you too, Riker."

Ava took my hands in hers. She pulled my up from my bed, and close to her. She kissed my lips for about 3 seconds, and then pulled away. I was blushing pretty hard.

"Aw, you're adorable," Ava said, putting her hand on my burning cheek.

I only blushed harder.

"Kids! Pizza's here!" Dad called.

"Ready to try pizza?" I asked, trying to get away from my awkwardness.

"Yup."

We went downstairs. Dad handed us each a plate with a piece of pizza.

"Ok. We can go upstairs and eat in my bedroom," I said, smiling slightly.

Ava followed me back upstairs. We sat down on my bed.

"Alright, so you pick it up like this," I said, demonstrating.

Ava mirrored me.

"And you just bite it," I said, taking a bite.

Ava took a bite, laughing a little.

"Riker, you were right. This is really good."

"I know right! It's freaking amazing!"

Ava laughed. We continued eating and talking about random things.
