On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree...
POV: Hoseok
"So today, I've got something fun and exciting for us to do! Aren't you all hyped?" our teacher, Mrs. Nam exclaimed as we all started to get our things out for class. Our whole class stopped fidgeting and turned to look at her with blank expressions on our faces, including myself.
"What is it, miss?" Jimin, my friend, asked. "Is it gonna be fun?" he widened his eyes.
"Secret Santa!" she laughed, making the whole room go dead silent with shock.
"W-what? Like, the stupid little game that little kids play?" he raised an eyebrow. "Miss, are you sure about this? We're older and wiser now, we don't really do that sorta stuff anymore."
"Oh, come on, Jimin, give it a rest, will you? I know that you're not all as tough as you make yourselves out to be," she giggled, grabbing a small pouch. "But I'm assuming you all know how to play this little game?"
Most of us mumbled a short 'yes', but some of the students looked really confused, as if they were in the middle of a maths lesson or something.
"Okay, so I take it you're not all familiar with this game," she sighed. "All of your names are on these little pieces of paper, and as I go around the class, you will pick out one name from the purple pouch that I have. Whoever's name is on your piece of paper, you will have to buy a present for. With the way that this works, everybody should end up getting a nice Christmas present from one of your peers!" she smiled proudly.
As she went from person to person, I saw either bright smiles or scrunched up faces of disgust and annoyance appear on everybody's faces.
Finally, she arrived to me, the person on the back row of the class. I rummaged through the little pouch and grabbed a scrap piece of paper with a name scribbled onto it.
Min Yoongi.
I looked around the room- Yoongi was at the very front of the class, sitting down quietly. He was fiddling with the piece of paper that he had, but I couldn't see his face.
What would Yoongi want?
Last year, there were rumours going around saying that Yoongi was gay and that he had a crush on me, but I doubt that any of the gossip was actually true.
What does Yoongi like?
I've always admired him from afar, and sure, he's super adorable and sweet, and if he liked me I would be over the moon, but I don't think that he would have a crush on somebody like me.
After all, we're complete opposites.
I thought long and hard, thinking about everything that he's ever told me, about his favourite music, games, or just generally anything.
I don't know.
"Yo, Jimin, who did you get?" I asked after school.
We were supposed to buy our gifts today for tomorrow, but I was still hung up on what to get Yoongi. I didn't want to disappoint him with something that he didn't even like.
"I got Sun-Hi, and she's cute and kind," he blushed. "So I'm gonna get her something awesome that perfectly reflects her personality."
"Oh yeah?" I laughed. "What are you planning on getting her?"
"Perhaps, a make-up set or some chocolate?" he shrugged. "I don't really know what girls like. Or I could just get her a sexy Polaroid of me instead," he wiggled his eyebrows. "What about you?"
"Yoongi," I mumbled. "I have no idea what to get him."
"Doesn't he like you?" he mentioned, not even batting an eyelash before saying it. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with being gay, b-"
"You know what?" I cut him off. "I like him back, okay? I like him. I. Like. Min. Yoongi." I said.
"You do?" he asked, looking a bit surprised. "Well, if you actually do like him too, I know exactly what you could give him."
"What is it?"
"Confess to him. Give him your love. Give him your heart and tell him that he's yours forever."
The next day, everybody in our class came into school with bags and envelopes, getting ready for the secret Santa exchange.
Everybody except me.
"Right, class, get out your presents! Now, here comes the fun part!" Mrs. Nam announced, but frowned when she saw that I had nothing ready on my desk. "Hoseok, why don't you have a present? Did you forget it?"
I stood up, trying to get the class' attention. I cleared my throat and everybody looked my way, but my gaze was fixed on Yoongi only.
"Um, Min Yoongi? Can you turn around for a second?" I asked awkwardly. He turned his body towards me, cheeks flushing bright red.
"Y-yes, Hoseok?" he stuttered.
"I know that you're probably wondering why you don't have a present, but that's because I want to give you something even more special than just a basic wrapped gift."
"Erm..."
"I love you, Min Yoongi. Do you wanna be mine forever?"
"Of c-course, Hoseok," he smiled like an angel. "I-I love you too."
That was the day I learnt that Secret Santa isn't just about giving physical, tangible Christmas gifts.
It's about giving love.
