People are scattered all over the place. The merchants returned to their wooden shop stall and the ladies returned back homes. My heart continued racing in fear. I held onto my cross and pointed to my head, left and right shoulders, chest, and then to my lips, praying for the dead man's corpse.
The image wouldn't leave my mind.
While suddenly the Cathedral bell rung, I gasped and began to run hurriedly towards to the main lobby. Without noticing, the Remedium dropped out of my pockets. Scurrying towards to the door, I avoided everyone's eye contact and lowered my cloak's hood to do so.
I was going to entered the front entrance but sadly, one priest was there and already sweeping the threshold with a straw broom. I back away, trying to not look like a stranger and walked slowly towards to the back door, us priests only know.
Turning the door knob slowly and quietly, I opened the door and went inside without making loud sounds and closed the door gently. Walking down to the empty corridor, I made my left to reach to the double doors that lead to the main lobby of the Cathedral.
Taking off my cloak and fixing my hair, I stepped out and the group of priests were talking together. Luckily, they barely noticed my presence and I walked in front of Mother Mary's statue and clasped my hands to her. Suddenly, I began to pray, closing my eyes.
Oh, Mother Mary. Please watch over me and my journey and wish my safety within thee. I pray for you to forgive my sins for leaving this place.
"Akidu!" one voice blurted and I snapped out of my praying thoughts and turned around. The eldest priest smiled and waved his hand, signaling for me to come there. I returned the smile back and walked towards to the group.
"Good morning, Eldest and to all the Oldest." I said and the nodded.
"Good morning Akidu." Eldest said and dipped his hand in the holy water, sprinkling to my face. I twitched as soon as the water cold water droplets hit my face. "There, all cleansed out." he said.
"I see that you already prayed Akidu." one of the Oldest said and I turned to him, nodding.
"Yes, Oldest. I have prayed like every morning I should." I said and the gave me a look of that's-a-good-boy.
"Hm. . . " the Eldest said and I blinked, looking at him.
"Yes?" I replied and he took a soft whiff.
"Akidu, you have the scent of business. Did you violate our rules by going outside and placing yourself with the lower classes?" he boldly said and I widened my eyes and immediately sweat began to form on my head. I bit my lips and hesitated a while to answer.
"N-No your Eldest." I lied, which was a sin I commited. He leaned towards me and I stepped back, feeling all guilty now.
"Akidu, do you know the punishment of commiting a sin?" Eldest said and terrifying eyes were looked heavily on me by him.
"Y-Yes your Eldest." I said nervously. I began to stammer and that wasn't good.
"Restate the punishment, Akidu." the Eldest said and I gulped down.
"T-The ones who commits such sins shall imprint the scar on their bare skin." I said. Some of the words shivered my spine. My palms were beginning to become sweaty. The Eldest nodded.
"Very right, Akidu. And it is the scar of the Symbol of Sin. Akidu, you did not commit such a sin by lying did you?" he stated and I fidgeted a bit.
"N-No your Eldest, I didn't co---"
"Eldest, the boy is lying." an echo bellowed the empty halls of the Cathedral. I trembled in fear and the priests turned around. The figure, walking towards us that entered from the main entrance, held a small wrapped up bag. He was one of the soldiers that served the Eldest. Unlike me, he was able to walk around town.
