Chapter Fourteen Waiting For You<3 A Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson Love Story

Chapter 14

Instantly, I felt hollow as if everything that was vital to me had been sucked away. I lost Gisela, my absolute best friend, and Cody, all in one day. Thank God I still had Greyson. Greyson, the only reason I had to give up Cody.

The world around me spins and I stagger over to my bedroom wall regaining my balance. Oddly, I felt lethargic and weak. There was no emotion left. Only a vast, empty wasteland of a soul.

It wasn't depression, but yet there was something missing. Something that had made an impression on my life. The two impressions that were now voided was in the imaginary form of Gisela and Cody.

Mom and Greyson storm in. "Why did Cody just leave?" Mom demands.

 "Because he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said no." I become suddenly interested in my bare muddy, soaked converse.

"Wait, why did you say no?" Greyson inquires. Mom leaves the room but before doing so she gives me this 'we need to talk look'. Imperceptibly, I nod.

"Because, I don't like him that way." My fib is sickeningly obvious. 

"Shelby, we all know you like him," He looks down at his feet. "I even knew you liked him when I asked you to be my girlfriend." I'm surprised at this because I didn't even know it then.

"Now what's the real reason?" I exhale in exasperation and slide down against my bedroom wall. 

"I just couldn't do that to you again, even Gisela." Greyson joins me on the cool, wooden floor.

He speaks as if in awe. "You turned down Cody, the one you know you love, for your ex best friend and me?" I nod wandering the direction of this statement.

"Shelby, you are amazing. You keep thinking of other people besides your own feelings. You should've just went with Cody. Gisela doesn't care about that." Sighing, I place my head on his shoulder, a perfect fit.

"Somehow I knew that but I just couldn't. And no I don't think of other people over myself. If I truly did I wouldn't even be in this mess." My wet hair sticks to my neck, irritating me.

"It was because of me, wasn't it?" Yet again, I nod, my most significant attribute as of late. 

"You don't have to worry about me Shelby. I always knew you and Cody had more than we ever would and I guess I thought I accepted that. But apparently I didn't. You go after Cody."

I look into Greyson's warm brown eyes. Inside them are the truth and care. The same eyes I somehow knew would always be there. I wrap my arms around his neck and lay my head into his shoulder. "What did I ever do to deserve you?"

He smirks into my hair. "Absolutely nothing, that's what best friends are for." That's exactly what Gisela had told me and it hit me square in the chest. I had screwed up with Gisela and I was going to try and get back Cody. I was determined not to mess this one up.''

That night, after Greyson had left, I laid in my bed staring at the ceiling. Plotting a way to get back the one you love is more difficult than it seems. As these thoughts ran together in my mind my mom walks in silently.

"It's time we talk." I don't need to answer her. It was obvious. She climbs into my bed with me and burrows beneath the bedding. "Greyson told me why you guys broke up. You know I always knew you liked Cody." I huff my breath.

"Apparently I was the last one to realize it." The room is still for several moments. 

"Why did you say no?" she proceeds with the interrogation. I shrug my shoulders.

 "I just couldn't do that to Greyson, but he said its okay for me to say yes." Even though I couldn't see her, I knew my mom was smiling.

"You should go get him Shelby. He's perfect for you and you're lucky to have Greyson as a friend. Not many people are like him. Don't take advantage of that."

"I won't mom. Not again."

"Good" She states finally, hopping out of my bed. "I love you baby girl."

"Love you too mom."

"Never forget it."

"I won't."
