The artificial light coming from Dan's camera devours the room. The brunnete boy looks at the camera screen, that's displaying the picture he just took of some beautiful coral peonies. He smiles slightly at himself, finally satisfied with the result after what felt like ages trying to get the shot with the right angle and lightning.
"Hey, I think I finally got it." Dan says with a proud grin, breaking the silence in the room and showing the picture to his photography teacher.
"It looks great, Dan." The teacher smiles at him. "But, I think you should innovate a bit more with your work, you know. I've never seen you take pictures of people, just objects. You should give it a try for this assignment, it's not hard to find someone who's willing to be a model." He says.
Concerned, Dan bites his lower lip and looks away. How the hell would he find someone to take pictures of? He had no friends, and his family was not supportive of his hobby.
"B-But--" Dan tries to protest, and is interrupted by his teacher.
"No! You're gonna find a way to do it and I am not going to accept another assignment with photos of objects." The teacher says harshly, taking his stuff and leaving Dan by himself in the classroom. He sighed, carefully putting his camera on his backpack and leaving the room.
Walking through the almost empty hallways of the university, Dan was in deep thought. How could he find someone to model to him? How would he ask the person to do this?! Frustration took over his mind. He took the tube that would take him right to the area he worked on.
He walked past the London Eye and the London Aquarium, a sight that didn't amaze him as it did when he started working as a barista on a coffee shop close to there. Now it was just plain boring instead of exciting. The sky was cloudy, thin rain started to fall down. Dan hurried to arrive at the coffee shop, and when he finally arrived, he could see through the window the rain starting to get thicker and a thunderstorm beginning to fall over London. Well, at least there probably wouldn't be a so many customers today, so not many awkward small talks and human interaction, Dan guessed.
Sighing in relief, he dropped his backpack and took his hoodie off, putting a green apron over his pastel green button up shirt and a cap over his slightly damp hair that was starting to curl on the tips, both had the logo of the company.
"Dan? Finally you arrived, the manager is being such a dickhead today so try not to fuck any orders up today, for fuck's sake." A familiar voice said, snapping Dan out of his thoughts. It was Piper, his best friend and probably the one and only person in this world who swore more than him. Seriously.
Dan rolled his eyes. "Hell, how do you expect me not to fuck anything up? Hello, I'm Dan Howell, nice to meet you?!?!" He said ironically.
"Whatever, Dan. Let's go to the counter quickly or else we're fucked." She grabbed his wrist and walked over to the counter, the typical scent of warm coffee mixed with chocolate taking over the place.
"So, today you're at the cashier." Piper said as Dan groaned in response. It was his least favorite place to be, for sure. Letting out a sigh, he took his place where he would be for the next hours.
After a few tedious moments of observing the water drops run trough the glass of the front of the coffee shop and random people walking by, Dan slightly jumps in surprise as the front door suddenly opens, revealing probably the most amazing figure he's ever seen.
A guy walks in, his tall and slim body covered in black clothes. Black skinny jeans, black Muse t-shirt and a black hoodie over his head, even his nails were painted black. Dan observed attentively every single move of his, feeling his face getting hotter and hotter as the mysterious guy approached the counter. Dan surely looked like a tomato when the guy reached the counter, taking off the hoodie over his head, revealing a beautiful pale as snow face that contrasted with his pitch black hair, the tips of his fringe dyed a navy blue. His eyes were also as blue as the ocean, with some hints of green around the pupils. He had his bottom lip and ears pierced, and a tattoo that could barely be seen on his neck.
"Um, is there something on my face?" The mystery guy said, smirking at Dan, who almost melted in embarrassment when he realized he was staring at the guy.
"A-Ah yes-- I mean, no, of course not, your face is totally okay aha, I mean.. uh.." The words just wouldn't leave Dan's mouth properly, then he just bit his lip, looking away awkwardly, and the only thing he could think of was burying himself under his bed sheets and crying because of his awkwardness.
The guy chuckled. "You're cute. So, can I have a tall caramel macchiato please?" He smiled and Dan's heart wasn't sure if it would stop or beat faster and faster.
"S-Sure." Dan said, taking the cup and a black sharpie. "Um, what's your name?" He asked, refusing to look at the guy.
"Phil." He smirked again. Oh God. Dan was sweating and his hands were trembling as he carefully wrote the guy's name on the cup.
"T-That'll be £3." Dan said quietly, still not looking at Phil, in fear he would fuck up again. Phil handed him the money, and proceeded to the next counter to wait for his drink which was being prepared by Piper.
"Here you go." She gave him the beverage and winked slightly at Phil, that in response smiled at her, taking his drink and leaving the shop. Dan took a deep breath and glared at Piper, which started bursting out in laugher.
"Oh my god, what the fuck was that, Dan?!" She said, not even holding back on laughing out loud.
"I-I don't know. What was that wink for anyway?" Dan asked, kinda giving up on denying the fact that he got a little jealous.
"Just to show you that's how you flirt, you dork!" Piper leaned against the counter, taking a deep breath after laughing so much, and when Dan was about to say something, the manager comes in.
"What is going on over here?" She asks, death glaring Dan and Piper.
"Uh, nothing." Dan said, scratching the back of his head. "Yeah, totally, nothing." Piper also said, grinning at Dan, who rolls his eyes.
"I got my eyes on you both." The woman says harshly and leaves to the back of the shop, them both there.
Dan buried his face in his hands and let out a deep sigh, then looking on his wristwatch how much longer he would have to stay there. Fortunately, it was almost time to leave, so he called Piper to go, as her shift ended at the same time as his.
At the back of the shop after packing his things, Dan put his headphones on, playing some music while he started walking to the tube, excited to get home and probably stay on his sofa crease, scrolling through Tumblr and watching shows all night, since it was Friday. He probably should start working on his assignment, but before that he needs to find someone to model to him, and that would probably take a while.
Suddenly, Dan was pulled out of his own mind when he bumped into someone on the street.
"Ah, sorry" He said, before looking up and seeing a pretty recognizable face. Lips pierced, blue eyes, pale face. It was the guy from earlier. Dan's cheeks instantly got redder, and Phil grinned at him.
"Hey, you're the cute guy from the coffee shop earlier." Phil said, and Dan was paralyzed.
