It was the 13th of September. The air was cold and crisp. Sherlock pulled his wool scarf closer to his face as he exited the cab he had hailed earlier. Sherlock had detected that the cabbie was a smoker. Two packs of Mayfair a day. One for his evening shift and one for his night. The cab smelled of nothing but smoke; that of course was caused by the clothes worn by the cabbie. He was mid 50's, wrinkles around the eyes, and old hands. Always check the hands. Sherlock sighed in relief as he breathed in the fresh air of Abbots Lane. Well almost fresh. Anderson was wearing that god awful cologne again.
"Anderson, didn't I tell you to never wear that cologne ever again? You smell as if someone murdered a pack of pigs," Sherlock scoffed while rolling his eyes in disgust.
"Jesus, Sherlock. Couldn't you be just a bit more sensitive? We are at a crime scene," John sighed.
"And? Your point is?"
"My point is you just told Anderson that he smells like something was murdered while we're at a scene of a murder. Seems a tad bit insensitive don't you think?"
At this point John wasn't even surprised anymore. He had become so accustomed to Sherlock speaking without thinking first.
"Yea Sherlock. Have some respect." Anderson cockily replied.
"Oh bloody hell. Shut up Anderson. You smell like ass. Happy? Didn't mention murder now did I?" Sherlock said while brushing past the group to enter the crime scene.
As Sherlock entered the scene red was the only thing that could be seen. It covered the walls. It puddled on the floors. It dyed the carpets. But what was it? Fresh blood of course. It was the only sent left in the air. Or should I say blood that was 6 hours 27 minutes and 4 seconds old. God how Sherlock actually despised the smell of blood. The metallic smell that lingered in his nose for hours. Absolutely dreadful.
Sherlock was just about the walk over to the victim when he stopped. There was a girl leaning over the body inspecting it. Yellow. Yellow in a sea of red. Her hair was all that Sherlock could focus on. But who is she? And what in the bloody hell does she think she's doing taking over his job?
