DYLAN'S POV

"So, you work here?" I ask Hadley. She nods in response and I watch as her lips part. She could be good at making out, I thought to myself.

"What school do you go to?" she asks me in return.

"I just moved here so I'm going to be going to the local school at the end of the summer," I respond, images of my old school flashing through my mind as I speak.

"Okay, so chalk that up to something that actually affects rich people," she says as looks over my sullen face. I laugh at her ability to read right through me and laughs a little too.

"Who said I was rich?" I ask with one eyebrow raised. This girl was good.

"Okay, you're wearing one of the fanciest brands of shoes and your shirt is pristine wit a hint of ironing on the back. You should tell your maid to do a better job," she sticks it to me and I'm shocked.

"The housekeeping staff doesn't start until tomorrow," I try to fire back and she just laughs at my attempt. Why wasn't I winning this argument?

"You look taken aback. Not used to losing?" she asks me challengingly. I laugh at her cockiness. She was quite the spitfire.

"No, I'm not," I reply seriously. She looks at me and laughs some more.

"Wow. So I'm guessing your friends and parents always let you win?" She gets a little more serious and I nod.

"Yeah since I'm an only child," I state and she nods knowingly. We walk down the blue hallway in silence and I feel like stopping and kissing her. So I grab her wrist and pull her aside. She looks at me funny as I back her up against the wall. I lean in grabs my lips with one hand. My eyes fly open and she laughs.

"Not happening," she pushes me back and I stumbled for my balance as she releases my lips from her death grip.

"Why not? Your hot and so am I. We could look great together," I spit out and her mouth drops to the floor. She closes her beautiful green eyes for a second and took a deep breath. Why did it look like she was straining?

"You are more conceited than I thought you were. Congrats. You really did prove to me that your ego is as big as the city. Thank you but this tour is over. I have to get back to work. And you should find your rich father," she pulls her hair up into a ponytail as she turns away and i try to catch up to her.

"What did I do?" I look at her mystified. Nobody ever turns me down like this. This was the first time in my life.

"What didn't you do? You wanted to make out with me just because I was hot. And man, your ego has consumed almost all of you!" she pushes me away from her and continues to walk back to where I found her.

"Hadley! Wait!" she turns a corner and heads into an employee only door. I stop, she hates me now. That's great. I lean against the door with my head down, wanting to undo all of this. How was she not impressed with all my talk about my life? People usually loved the only child bit. I pick myself up off the door and straighten my tie. I hear footsteps nearby and I peek out to see my Father and one of the Doctors. They both looked super tense. I walk out from around the corner and fall into step with both of them.

"We're doing great here. I don't think there is a need to turn this into a casino," the Doctor replies. He was tall and skinny with darker skin.

"Dad, I think it's time that we take our leave," I rest my hand on my father's shoulder and he grumbles.

"I was happy to show you around. But there is no need to buy this place out," the doctor says as he shows us to the door. I let my father go out first and then stop. I take a deep breath and look the doctor in the eyes.

"You have an employee named, Hadley right? I would like her number or some way to contact her again," the doctor looks at me surprised and shakes his head no.

"You will have to ask Hadley for that. We don't give out other employees personal information," he tries to close the door but I stop it.

"Then can I get the Centers number. Ya know, just in case of an emergency," I wink at the doctor and his face is still blank.

"You can find the phone number in the cities phone book. Now please follow your father out the door and go back to whatever playboy mansion you have in this town," the Doctor hisses at me and reluctantly head out the door. I growl to myself, balling up my fists. I was going to prove to Hadley that I wasn't conceited. She would fall for me. And that was my new mission. I was going to get Hadley the turtle girl to fall for me. Or so help me I will hitch hike back to New York all by myself.
