Christmas Break
HADLEY'S POV
"Hadley?" I hear his voice and turn instantly.
"Dylan?" I ask in return and he smiles, and that's when I start running. I run into his arms and he almost falls over as I slam into him and squeeze him in my arms. He squishes me into his and I breathe in his New York scented cologne. Tears strike at my eyes as I remember the goodbye I was forced to make five months ago.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't make it for Thanksgiving," he apologizes and I nod my head against his chest, trying to hide the tears.
"I love you," I spill and he laughs.
"You're crying aren't you?" he asks me and pulls me out to arm's length and I try to hide my face with my hands.
"Maybe," I lie and he laughs some more, pulling my hands from my face and kissing my forehead.
"I love you too," he says in between kisses as his lips move to mine. I wrap my arms around his neck and he wraps his around my waist.
"Oh please! Enough with the PDA! We're going to go blind!" I hear Jack shout from behind and I smile through the kiss and Dylan laughs.
"Shh! I think they're adorable," Oliver shushes him and we both laugh.
"Oh stop being so sappy Oliver," Bentley orders him and Oliver punches him in the arm.
"You should be sappier," he hisses back and I laugh as we walk towards them. I let go of Dylan's hand and he goes to hug each of my brothers. Except instead of hugging them one at a time, they each bear hug him all at once. I giggle at the sight of Dylan being squished in the middle of all of my brothers. As I turn to grab one of his bags, he pulls me in and I get squashed in with them.
"You are going to get it for this," I wheeze at him as my brothers squeeze us. I try to act scary but he gives me his dashing smile and his eyes shimmer, causing me to melt inside.
"You can't stay angry at me," he chuckles as my brother's let go and I stick my tongue out at him.
"No need to rub that in," I hiss and he squeezes me into his arms. I try to keep a straight face but being in his arms for the first time in months felt really nice.
"Can we go get something to eat now?" Bentley whines and we all laugh. My brothers each grab one of Dylan's small bags and we all head towards the doors to the parking lot.
"We have an hour drive home so we can stop at Subway or something," Jack says and we all cheer in response.
One hour and two subs later...
"We're home!" I chirp in the front hallway and my Mother comes rushing in. She instantly hugs Dylan and then over to me.
"Was your plane ride alright?" my Mom asks him and he smiles genuinely.
"It was great actually," he responds as he grabs my hand and I guide him over to the couch. We sit down and he pulls me into his lap as my Mother sits across from us in the recliner.
"So how are things with the company?" My Dad asks as he waltzes into the room. Dylan smiles proudly and I know that he's about to give a huge explanation.
"Well, I'm vice president of the entire company now so all of my Father's decisions have to go through me first. So now I can make sure he doesn't do anything underhanded. And I have helped my Mother get back to her old kind natured ways from before she married my Father. That helped my Father change some and it has made them fall in love with each other all over again," he says excitedly as he nearly konks me in the nose with his elbow, which he was waving through the air as he spoke. My eyes widen as I try to duck and hit the back of my head against his chest.
"That's great!" My Mother cheers as she giggles at the look on my face from trying to avoid Dylan's arms.
"What's so funny?" he asks as my Father joins in with the slight laughter. Then he looks down at me and laughs as well.
"You better be sorry," I grumble at him and he kisses me on the forehead.
"Love you too," he grabs my hands and waves my arms around as well as he speaks some more.
"And we have now opened a wildlife center in New York! It's incredible. And Hadley already knows this but I put her name in the name of the sanctuary. It's called The Hadley Center for Wildlife. The place is a true tourist stop now. And all the profits of visits pay for 80 percent of the costs of the wildlife center," he throws my arms in the air I laugh as he lets go and decides to poke my stomach instead. I screech as the sudden touch and he chuckles.
"Well that's amazing but I'm afraid we have to go to dinner with some of the neighbors. And Hadley already told me you would rather not attend. And I understand, the neighbors we have to go out with are a true bore," My Mom fake yawns to add dramatics and I feel Dylan's chest rumble as he laughs.
"That's fine. We'll just be here," I say as both of my parents get up and leave the room, heading towards the front hallway to grab their coats and things.
"Have fun!" Dylan shouts goodbye and my parents laugh as the door closes behind them. And then we're left in silence with the glowing Christmas tree and each other.
I turn towards him and he smashes his lips on mine instantly. I kiss him with every ounce of my body and I can feel the hunger rising from the dark corners of my heart.
"God I've missed you," he says through kisses and we both stand. His lips slide down to my neck and I help him get his shirt off. And that's when the door from the basement opens and three boys enter.
"WOAH!" I hear Jack shout and I screech at their sudden entry. I throw Dylan's shirt at him and collapse back onto the couch as I do so. I hide my face in shame as Bentley marches over to me.
"Do we need to have the talk young lady?" he asks expectantly and my eyes go wide in fear. I've already taken Sex Ed, but getting an extra talk from yours three older brothers would be horrifying! I would probably have to go to therapy!
"No," I say meekly and the three of them all burst into laughter.
"We're just kidding," Oliver says and my hands shake from fear, I spot Dylan in the recliner looking like he's about to pass out.
"Oh my god," I gasp for air and the three of them continue to laugh.
"Wait, were you about to have sex?" Bentley asks blatantly and I shriek.
"No," Dylan and I both say at once and all of my brothers look at each other weirdly. I glare at them in horror and they all exit silently and awkwardly, heading to the backyard.
I look over at Dylan and he looks at me.
"Well, that was weird," Dylan says as he gets up slowly and walks over to help me up off the couch.
"You're weirder," I crack and he smiles down at me.
"You're the weirdest," he pokes in response and I giggle.
"But you still love me," I smile up at me and he nods.
"That I do," he says as I kiss him in front of the Christmas tree. And suddenly, the awkwardness had melted away and I wished that I could live in this moment forever.
