Sorry if I got some things mixed up but I know exactly next to nothing about modelling jobs. Nope, I'm not one to research so bear with me.

I was drinking coffee -with milk and alot of sugar, might I add, I just hate black coffee they're disgusting. Like who could drink that anyway- while browsing about some modelling agencies on Mida's newly acquired computer, when I heard a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" I asked, walking to the door and peeped through the door hole to see Mida outside the door of the apartment. I removed the hinge and opened the door.
"Mida you're back! But I thought you had your key" I frowned.
"Yep but I'm too exhausted to even search for it. Bahamas wasn't all that fun. We did heap loads of shooting, I didn't even have time to take a swim in the beach! Is there still coffee?" Mida asked when she noticed the liquid in my cup.
"Yes and it's still hot. I'll go get you some"
"Black please" She says and goes straight to her ugly couch to sprawl. I scrunched up my nose at her preference but didn't say anything. I went to the tiny kitchen that had faded walls, a cooker , a polished wood floor, a lime colored cupboard, a grey microwave and a coffee maker. I rinsed my mug and collected a new mug from the cupboard and went to the coffee machine to collect some coffee. I came back to the living room and saw Mida with her eyes closed and her long lashes resting on her cheek. She looked super tired but how she remains stunning I don't know.
"Here you go" I say giving her the coffee mug.
"Thanks" Mida drank the coffee without wincing. When she finished her coffee, she placed her mug on the coffee table and stood up. "I'm gonna go retire to bed. I'm gonna sleep like a baby so don't disturb me" she says.
"Okay. Goodnight" Mida nodded and left.
***************
I wake up a minute before my alarm which I kept on the side stool by the side of the couch. I was feeling exceptionally good today. I guess it's because of my audition today. I yawned and stretched out my limbs, got down from the couch, took some clothes out of my suitcase and walked barefooted to the bathroom. I took off my slightly faded pink nightgown that reached just an inch above my knee. I took a hot shower. Mhmm, that's so relaxing and washed my hair with a jasmine shampoo.
I got out of the shower and dried myself with a white furry towel that I saw on the towel rack. After I dried myself, I rubbed some vaseline to make my skin look radiant. I then changed into the clothes I brought. I looked at the full length mirror to check myself. The milk colour fitted gown I was wearing looked good on my tanned skin. I then combed my dark thick mane of hair which was unruly.
I inherited my rich dark hair and olive skin from my dad and my big hazel eyes and face structure from my mother. How I so much miss you mom. I rubbed mascara and a little lip gloss on my lips to make it shiny. I walked into the living room and wore my favorite green platform shoes, then walked into the kitchen to make tea cause I was feeling a bit nervous and I was in the mood for tea and no I'm not English. I think we've already established that fact.
"You going somewhere?" Asked Mida, who was placing the pancakes she made on a plate.
"I'm heading out to some modelling agencies today. How'd I look?" I asked while nibbling on a pancake, long forgotten about making tea. God, I love pancakes.
"Hot. Knock-em dead girl"
"I rather try not to" I reply but laughed anyways.
****************
I sat down sulkily.
"I take it, it didn't go that well"
"Another means to an end. I'm tired. I want to go home. It was a mistake coming here thinking that New York is all gold and honey."
"Don't go home. Don't be a coward. There will be more opportunities" Mida tried to persuade me.
"No I'm going home" I said stubbornly. "The city is loud, the people here are mean except you ofcourse"
"Ofcourse" Mida scoffed.
"Back home it was peaceful, full of tranquility. The people treated each other as family. There was pleasant gathering every Saturday at the meadows..." I trailed off , thinking about my small town in Kentucky. How the crock of the rooster was heard early in the morning. The beautiful small garden owned by my mother at the back of the house which I could see through my window filled with various flowers, my favorite being the hibiscus. And the Sunday fellowship where the pastor knew almost everybody apart from newcomers but who vacates to Kentucky anyways. Not that I was spiritual but there was no where else to go to at weekends, being a small town with approximately 500 inhabitants. Every three years.
"But is that what you want?" Mida touched my shoulder lightly.
"No, no that's not what I want. I always got bored there. I wanted excitment. I wanted fun. Which was why I decided to pursue a modelling career and leave the town. I didn't want to be enclosed in a house or be a housewife with five kids who depends on her husband for everything. I wanted independence"
"So what do you want?"
"To be independent but I don't see what I'm doin' here with nothin' to do. Gettin' no assurance that I will make it in this industry" The more frustrated I am, the more my southern accent intensifies.
"It's not always easy the first time but it gets better with time. Are you just gonna throw away your life long dream? Hmm, are you?!" Mida demanded. Heaving from shouting to make me understand things.
"Wow Mida I didn't know you had it in you. And no I won't give up. As you said better opportunities would come so I'm just gonna sit tight until then" I said.
"That's the spirit" Mida said "Tomorrow I was to go for an audition but I want you to go instead and you dress strictly to kill. Got it?"
"Yes ma'm" I saluted. Dying with amusement which was clearly shown in my eyes.
