For You (A sestina)

As the light of the moon reflects in your eyes,
I held your hand as we gaze at the clear night sky.
For years, we rendezvous at this serene and secret place,
To get away from the noise, the stress, and the people.
At the stroke of midnight, we watch the meteors fall,
And with each passing moment, my heart does the same for you.

A lot of things have changes, but not my feelings for you,
You may not notice it, but you have been the apple of my eyes.
With your every move, you could make any man fall,
And your smile and your laugh radiate the warm summer sky.
A feeling of pure bliss, wanted by a lot of people,
But only for me to enjoy today, as we lie alone in this place.

You asked me again, how we first got to this place,
And I sat and said, it was all because of you,
You wanted a sanctuary, a place away from all the people.
You sat beside me and I noticed the tear in your eyes,
But said nothing, as we quietly stared into the sky,
Then, I heard you sobbing, and your tears started to fall.

You asked me in tears, “What happens to us when we fall,
Will we stay together, or end up in a different place?”
Your question took me by surprise, and I glanced back to the sky,
The answer was hard for me, and I’m not sure I can tell you.
You were still crying, so I held your hand, and I closed my eyes.
For that one moment, I wished we were amongst the people.

“There was a story I heard, from a certain group of people,
They were talking about what would happen when angels fall,
One even claimed that he saw it with his own eyes,
But he did not say any further, even the name of the place.”
I looked at you, smiled, and said, your choice is up to you.
You answered with a smile and you slowly took to the sky.

I was left alone enthralled and just stared across the sky.
I thought of the story I once heard from the people,
I wanted to know, so, I made a decision, out of my love for you,
I stood at the ledge, and then closed my eyes and I took the fall.
I felt something change in me, though I was still in the same place,
I prayed and called out to you, and then I saw something with my eyes.

In my eyes I saw, the grandeur of the cold winter night sky,
And in our secret place, I have never felt more close to the people,
And I will wait if you will fall, for all this is a miracle, and because I love you.
